Influential dancehall artiste, Jahvillani has released the official music video for his new single titled Head Top. Head Top is a collaboration with an up and coming dancehall entertainer, Lebanan and was produced by 1Gov, YGF Records, DJ Perf & Bellwether Muzic. Since its February 4 release, the video has received over 100,000 views and is currently number 5 on trending.

At the beginning of the track, a news clip that is reporting on violent activity in Spanish Town, Jamaica is being played to foreshadow the theme of the video. Throughout the song Jahvillani and Lebanan promise that if someone in their close circle is murdered, they will retaliate – “Mi fling one inna dem head top. Murda mi fren, somebody affi dead back.” The song follows a violent theme, with another line saying,  “Chatty mouth get shot that a dead rat who no get it inna face den a head back.”

With the heightened crime and violence taking place in Jamaica at this time, however, some listeners questioned if the song should have been released at all, as it vividly paints a picture, both through the lyrics and video of guns firing and people being murdered.

One listener said, “Create positive music, we now have enough bad man tune.” Another added, “Sounds like something criminals will meditate to before a crime, we need to change the culture of encouraging violence in music.”

On the other hand, some dancehalls fans were in favour of the track. One fan said, “This mek mi feel like stayin beside mi speakers fi wul 2020 ,who else cyah stop pull up?” Another chimed in, “Longtime we did a wait Fi one like this jahvi”.

Head Top is Jahvillani’s fifth release for 2020, having dropped songs such as Clear the Way and a new video for Rubberband.

The artiste, who was formerly a member of the 6ix camp, led by dancehall artiste Squash, has been holding his own for the past year, collaborating with the likes of I-Octane and Konshens. His single Clarks Pon Foot gave him a strong push in the music industry, now over 3.6 million views.
