Dancehall artiste Govana is paying tribute to his real friends and family in a new inspirational music video for his single ‘Believe Me’ which was released yesterday. The 4th Genna artiste hopes the video will inspire people to help one another in meaningful ways. Watch it below.

The visual, edited by Jamaican-based filmmaker 300K, is set in Bobby Lane, Spanish Town and follows the building of a barber shop in the community for one of Govana’s friends, Joel.

The 5-minute video opens with a shot of Joel’s previous barber ‘shack’ which was in a state of disrepair. Govana says that he respected Joel’s drive regardless of his circumstances, so he decided to “help him to help himself”.

“We gi him ah betta facility to fulfil him dream, you get wha mi ah seh”, the artiste said in a short interview at the end of the video. “I guess this is just a way fi try help a youth fi try help himself. Mek him become him owna boss tuh”, Govana added.

Govana has no expectation of reward for his act of kindness, but hopes Joel will pass it along. “Me building the barber shop outta my pocket, me nah really want a dolla from Joel,” he said. “Me just want Joel if he can help a next barber and build ah next yute, you know, and him can build somebody else and we cyan continue the chain,” Govana said.

Govana really does value friendships. Just last month, he donated $100,000 to a Spanish Town student who lost his home to fire. Then in a surprise move, he donated $15,000 to each of the six friends of that student who stepped up to help their classmate after the blaze.
