Dancehall artiste D’Angel has responded to claims that she was dragged off the stage during her encore performance at Popcaan’s Unruly Fest on December 21st at the Goodyear Oval in St Thomas, Jamaica.  The singer, 41, called the claims inaccurate and has apologized for not responding to them sooner, adding that the initial fiery response to the claims were made by her social media personnel.

The issue started when a journalist, Dionne Jackson-Miller, who attended the event had tweeted that she thought D’Angel, whose real name is Michelle Downer was walking off the stage arms in arms with a man, but she later realised that she was being “dragged off”.

Jackson-Miller claimed: “So I thought D’Angel was walking off arm in arm with this guy only to realise he was dragging her off lmao.” She went on to say, “Most of these encores are a waste of time. Do your set and cut.”

In response, one of D’Angel’s two twitter accounts posted an expletive-laden reply to Jackson-Miller’s tweet.   “Dutty Woman Where Did That Happen Which Boy Can Drag Me Off Stage,” the fiery response started. “B#tch I Gave A Epic Performance Where They Beg Me 2 Go Back On Stage B#tch Keep My Name Out Of Yur Stinking Mouth People Like You Bring Down Other Woman Instead Of Giving Them Their Glory Go Review Your Video Shit.”, the account continued.

D’Angel, in a statement posted to her Instagram account today, first apologised for not responding to the claims sooner.  She said, “…the holidays got the best of me as I am working very hard with my booked appearances and my career.”

The Lady of the Dancehall said Jackson-Miller’s tweet was inaccurate and could have caused damage to her career and loss of income.

“What subsequently happened is that my social media personnel responded on my behalf and referred to Mrs. Miller in a derrogatory [sic] manner in which I wasn’t applaud [sic] by.” She went on to say, “my social media personnel was frustrated about the tweet and responded in a degrading manner in which I doesn’t [sic] condone as I am a woman who strongly believed [sic] in female empowerment.”

She disavowed the derogatory tweet and added that she will continue to uplift other women and will be moving forward in 202 with positivity. The tweet has since been deleted.  Jackson-Miller has not responded.
