After a vibrant and entertaining show at Ghetto Splash held at the Drewsland stadium on December 17, D’Angel relishes in the fan’s reaction to her tantalizing performance. The First Lady sing-jay said, “Tonight spoke volumes di way dem scream and gwaan, wah more unu want than dat? The lady of dancehall did her thing,”

That she did, dressed in a leopard print half romper, half jumpsuit, D’Angel roared a couple of her hit songs like No Worries, I’m Blessed, Nuh Trust Dem and Baby Father. The feisty songstress was energetic and entrancing as she took over the stage, her build up to each song demanded attention and once she started deejaying the crowd went wild.

In an article on the Jamaica Star, D’Angel said that although she doesn’t always get the credit she deserves, she regards herself as the “baddest” stage performer in dancehall as far as underrated female artistes are concerned.

Her ‘Lady of Dancehall’ moniker is a reflection of her style and grace as a Reggae artiste. While the lyrics to some of her music can be considered somewhat hardcore she is far from. Many will agree, she is a confident performer, but don’t expect any head top wining and helicopter splits at any of her concerts — well not from her at least.

It’s already hard for females to get the recognition and respect in the dancehall industry the way men do but its also challenging for a ‘Lady’ to stand up against hardcore female performers, say for instance like Spice and Ishawna. So if you’re not taking risks in overly raunchy lyrics and putting on the show to mirror those rude rhymes, then expect to be pushed to the side.

Some fans weren’t all that impressed with the Ghetto Splash performance and took to YouTube to express just that. “D Angel kool, no fire, Shiiiiit ole school where’s Lady Saw man true fire…. The original Queen of dance hall take notes”, “Tasteless presentation of clothing. my gosh 😳😳😣” and “ANYTIME SPICE HOLD YOU, RIGHT THERE YOUR LIFE END.”

D’Angel keeps it positive nonetheless as she continues to stay afloat in this tough industry. Her love for dancehall and the fans keep her going. For her the Ghetto Splash performance was sure proof of that. Fans reacted to clips of the I’m Blessed star at the show on her Instagram page saying “Ok the lady of dancehall is out in full effect 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (nu gal cah Tek me man mi affi lef the man before she get the man) 🎵🎼🎼🎼🎼🔥🔥”, “And this is what u call PERFORMANCE ‼”, “I just love her big up you self angel 🔥🔥you fire give it to them”, “🔥🔥🔥😂😂😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💞💪💞💪go for it my first lady dancehall 🔥🔥🔥😍😍😍💞💪💪💞😍😍😍😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥 boss” and “Spanish Town living legend. Proud to be from Spanish Town”.

With praises like that, it’s safe to say it was as good night for D’Angel.

She reaffirmed her claims, today, in an Instagram post captioned “The Baddest Angel” that treated her followers to a clip of her performance at Popcaan‘s Unruly Fest.
