Miss World Toni-Ann Singh To Appear At Popcaan’s Unruly Fest In Jamaica

Jamaican Toni-Ann Singh will make a special appearance at Popcaan’s Unruly Fest after winning the Miss World 2019 crown in London a few days ago. The show will be held this Saturday night at the Goodyear Oval in Morant Bay, St Thomas and the organisers say there will be a special surprise waiting for the new Queen.

An Unruly Fest representative, Carleene Samuels told the Jamaica Gleaner that it was easy to secure her appearance since both the new queen and Popcaan share a passion for their home parish, St Thomas. Without revealing details, she said “Toni-Ann has made Popcaan, her home parish, and the entire Jamaica proud, and we intend to tell her thank you and celebrate her”.

Unruly Fest’s organisers are also tight-lipped about speculation that Drake and Davido will make surprise appearances at the event. Popcaan is expected to headline with Bounty Killer, Capleton, Sizzla, Chronic Law and other local acts making appearances.

Popcaan was among the first to welcome and congratulate Tori-ann as the new Queen who is the fourth Miss World winner from Jamaica following Carole Joan Crawford in 1963, Cindy Breakspeare in 1976, and Lisa Hanna in 1993. “There’s a total different light shining on st Thomas parish right now, and it makes me very happy to see someone else from the parish flourishing and making us all proud. Go Toni Ann you have me and my whole team support🙏✊🏿 MISSWORLD2019”, he proudly posted after her win.

The new Miss World, who has lived in the United States since the age of 9, was invited back to the island by the Jamaican Government for a brief homecoming celebration.

She will first attend a cultural tribute at Emancipation Park on Saturday, and is expected to sing before heading to Unruly Fest in St Thomas.

Tori-Ann will then meet Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Sunday followed by courtesy calls with other government officials before departing on Monday. After her win Holness expressed how proud she has made Jamaica and urged her to continue to be a fantastic role model for Jamaica’s young women.

Singh impressed the judges at the Miss World pageant with her rendition of the Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing. Piers Morgan, a judge at the pageant asked whether she would consider a career in music and she said, “If the door is open, I’ll walk through it.” Until that door is open, her current path is that of an aspiring medical doctor.
