Dancehall icon, Vybz Kartel, born Adijah Palmer, is hopeful that he will be able to spend the upcoming Christmas holidays with his family.

According to Kartel’s representative, Bert Samuels, both Kartel, and his co-accused, fellow dancehall entertainer, Shawn ‘Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre Campbell, are anticipating that the appeal verdict, set to be revealed by the end of 2019, will work to their advantage.

Samuels said, “It is now one year and six months since the court reserved, so my client anxiety is heightening. He is in high spirits and is hoping that he will not have to spend Christmas where he is, but will be able to rejoin his family.”

The defense attorneys handling the case have shared that it is about time for the future status of the ‘Worl’ Boss’ and his co-accused to be made clear. They highlighted the notion that Kartel’s case was subjected to bias in a number of ways. One of the ways mentioned being the alleged contamination of the evidence that was brought forward at the time of his 17-week long trial for murder –  the messages lifted from Vybz Kartel’s Blackberry.

During the court case, Kartel’s legal team accused the prosecution of tampering with the evidence to negatively impact the entertainer’s chances of a just trial.

Kartel and his co-defendants were charged in 2014 for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2011 and were each sentenced to life, with Kartel receiving the longest sentence of 35 years before he is eligible for parole. While the other convicted parties were sentenced to 25 years each before they may receive eligibility for parole.

Since his conviction, the Any Weather deejay has been churning out singles continuously, keeping his loyal fans satisfied musically, however, they too are anxious for his release.
