The first headliner announcement for Detty December Fest 2026 is not a surprise exactly, but the details around it make the story more interesting than it first appears. Wizkid will open the festival on December 18, kicking off a two-week run that stretches through December 30 and now includes a brand new second stage built specifically for emerging artists.
Livespot360 is producing the event again, the same company that brought Cardi B to Nigeria and Ghana in what became one of the most talked-about moments in recent African festival history. Tickets are already on sale, and more headliner names are expected to drop in the coming weeks.
Wizkid’s booking lands after what has been a relatively quieter stretch for him compared to the Morayo promo cycle he spent most of 2025 grinding through. That album peaked at number four on Billboard’s World Albums chart, which is a real benchmark for how far Afrobeats has pushed into global chart territory.
Since then he has kept his name in circulation through collaborations rather than solo releases. His joint EP with Asake, Real Vol. 1, came out in January, and he followed that with “Dynamite” alongside Tyla and “Gimme Dat” with Ayra Starr. That last one earned a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 ceremony, which adds a layer of prestige to his current run.
The new Pulse Stage is arguably the most interesting structural shift this edition is making. Livespot co-founder and chief creative officer Darey Art Alade has been clear that the idea is to give emerging artists a real platform alongside the established names, not just a side room that people drift into between main stage sets.
Darey framed it as a direct response to how fast African music is growing globally, and the logic tracks. If the festival wants to stay relevant over the next decade, it needs to be developing the next generation of headliners, not just booking the ones already at the top. A second stage that takes that mission seriously is a different proposition to a token emerging artist slot.
For Wizkid specifically, a Lagos homecoming show always carries weight that a European or American date simply does not. He has performed in some of the biggest venues in the world over the past few years, but the energy of a December Lagos crowd is its own thing entirely, and his fans there have been waiting.
The Grammy-winning singer has not headlined Detty December in this format before, so there is genuine curiosity about what kind of set he puts together for opening night. With more collaborators in his recent catalogue than ever, the question of which guests might show up is already circulating online.
