Dexta Daps Earns First Silver Certification In The UK For ‘Shabba Madda Pot’

Dexta Daps’ 2015 anthem Shabba Madda Pot is now his first song to be certified Silver in the United Kingdom, marking a major milestone for the Dancehall artist and the song that celebrates one of Jamaica’s most cherished community figures.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), Shabba Madda Pot, produced by DASECA Productions, surpassed 200,000 units in sales in the UK, earning the Brit Certified Silver Award on Friday (July 18). The certification was based on sales tracked by The Official Charts Company.

In an Instagram post on Friday celebrating the achievement, Daps thanked his loyal supporters: “Many Thanks to the Dapanation Dapadarians💪🏿🙏🏿”

The song, which remains Daps’ most-streamed track on Spotify with over 46 million plays, centers on gunplay but more importantly survival, chronicling fearless existence in the face of adversity and crippling circumstances.

It’s also a heartfelt tribute to Constance “Mama Christie” Christie, the late mother of dancehall icon Shabba Ranks.

Mama Christie, known for her generosity and her ever-bubbling kitchen in Seaview Gardens, inspired the song with her selflessness and warmth. For decades, she was a mother figure not only to her own children but to the entire community — feeding anyone who came to her door, hosting Christmas treats, and embodying the spirit of care and community.

Dexta Daps, who grew up experiencing her kindness firsthand, once described the song as an ode to her legendary hospitality: “The pot ever hot. Who nuh know bout her pot nuh come from bout yah. Even when me nuh get no food, the pot still smell good and still hot.”

Mama Christie herself spoke humbly of her role in the community before her passing: “I am the mom for each and every child here. I look after them just the way I would look after my own. When we have treats here, Shabba gives me the money, but I am the organiser and responsible for the cooking.”

Alongside Shabba Madda Pot, Dexta Daps’ other standout hits include Call Me If, Breaking News, Twinkle, Owner, and Leader with Masicka.
