Gramps Morgan Song Featured In Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Destination Wedding”

Reggae singer Gramps Morgan is celebrating a major milestone as his uplifting track If You’re Looking for Me is featured in the new Netflix film Madea’s Destination Wedding, created by Tyler Perry. The inclusion of the song marks the first time the artist has had a solo track placed in a movie.
“This is an incredible accomplishment because not many artists—not only in our genre, but across all genres—get an opportunity to have their songs in a movie,” Morgan told DancehallMag. “This is my first ever solo song in a movie, but Morgan Heritage has had several songs in several movies, including Coming to America 2 featuring Eddie Murphy,” he added.
If You’re Looking for Me is a standout song from Morgan’s 2021 album Positive Vibration, a body of work rooted in country-reggae fusion and healing vibrations.
“The song was not written specifically for the movie,” he explained. “It was taken from my country-reggae album entitled Positive Vibration.”
Gramps recalls the deeply personal and challenging creative process behind producing the song, which unfolded during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’ll never forget the process because we were working on this album in the middle of the pandemic,” he said. “I remember that one of the guitar players that played on a song—who plays in Buju Banton‘s band—was in Jamaica and couldn’t travel. And we were able to get through the process through the Internet, so it’s a memory I will never forget.”
The opportunity for the song to be featured in Madea’s Destination Wedding came through direct outreach from Tyler Perry Studios.
“The opportunity came about by Tyler Perry Studios reaching out to Halo Entertainment, my record company who helped put out the song—even though it was taken from the album entitled Positive Vibration,” Morgan shared.
For the Grammy-winning artist, the placement is not just a personal achievement, but a gateway for reggae music to reach a wider audience through mainstream cinema.
“Well, like I discussed with my publicist Contractor Music, this is going to be an opportunity for not just me as an artist, but the genre of reggae,” he said. “But for me, it is going to invite a lot more people to my brand if they are attracted to the song. That will be the first key—people have to love the music. Other than that, it can fly right over their heads. But I pray that this song will bring joy and upliftment to everyone that hears it.”
Madea’s Destination Wedding, which was released on Netflix on July 11, features Perry reprising his role as Mabel “Madea” Simmons. It is the thirteenth film in the ‘Madea cinematic universe.’
