Dancehall artist Stamma Gramma has gone viral for the music video of his track Banana which features artificial intelligence (AI) generated avatars.

The song, which is described as a cheeky, party-ready anthem was  produced by Gramma Records and Daze Records. The avatars featured include dancehall artists  Shenseea and Spice; politician Lisa Hanna, global superstar Rihanna, and viral influencer Ivany.

“It was a bit of an experiment. I assessed the market and wondered what was something that would be unusual and entertaining and the rest is history,” the entertainer said.

As it relates to the massive attention, and a trend that he has cemented in the dancehall space, the deejay said, “Anything bold and unorthodox you’re gonna get extreme feedback in both directions. So, it was expected. I never expected it to blow up like it did but I am pleased that it sparked a conversation about the value of human beings in this rapid technological evolution.”

Banana is the first release from an upcoming five-track EP of the same name.

The use of artificial intelligence in various industries has been on the rise over the last few months. As it relates to this music video, fans have mixed reviews with some praising the futuristic mash-up, while others are criticizing how unrealistic some aspects of the avatars seem.

Stamma Gramma reasoned that AI can be utilised as an efficient tool for creatives. However, human capabilities will always reign supreme.

“I believe [that] it can complement the productions, but, humanity will always reign supreme because I believe human creations are influenced from the Divine. By the way, AI is just a reflection of human ingenuity,” he said.

He added that he may incorporate AI in future projects. In the meantime, he is pleased with the exponential attention the project has been receiving.

“Right now, mi spark a beef between humans and AI, and as a human being,  I want to be on the right side of history. Right now, real gyal waistline a move like WiFi while AI is still buffering,” he said.
