Dalton Harris Cries Foul After Racial Profiling From London Police
Jamaican singer Dalton Harris fired off on his Twitter account after he was allegedly racially profiled by London police.
The X-Factor UK 2018 winner said he was reprimanded after patrolling officers perceived him as a criminal threat while he was out jogging in his London hometown. The star was left incensed after the encounter which he condemned as an inept attempt to “humiliate a young black man.”
Giving a summary of the run-in, Harris tweeted, “So the cops literally just reprimanded me because I was wearing a hoody and is black so they thought I was intending on robbing parked cars in the parking lot of a super market in my market run.” He ended his account with the scathing hashtag “#LondonIsBecomingAmerica?”, alluding to flagrant displays of racism that continue to play out publicly and spark umbrage in the land of the free.

“It’s the f—g way I was approach like a criminal that had a gun or somen or was reported to be dangerous”, Harris continued, noting that he was in shock when the incident occurred. In many of the implied American incidents, such as those of Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and most recently, George Floyd, young black men approached by law enforcement have ultimately lost their lives.
“So I basically pay my taxes so I can pay people to be racist and abuse protocol?” he asked angrily in his rant, adding that he only realized “the VIOLATION that racial profiling is” afterwards. Still, It’s a relief he’s safe if understandably shaken up, as Dalton’s impassioned account of his ordeal has echoed endlessly in recent times.
When George Floyd’s murder ignited protests all the way to the UK, Star Wars actor John Boyega made headlines with his emotional BLM speech from the frontlines.
Choking back tears, he shouted, “I need you guys to understand how painful this s—t is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing. Every black person here remembers the first time someone reminded you that you were black. Black Lives have always mattered! They want us to be disorganized but not today!
Citing the possibility that he’d never work again in Hollywood after his rousing words, Boyega said the protestors’ presence honored the lives of British Jamaican youth Stephen Lawrence, who was stabbed to death in an unprovoked racist attack in London, and Mark Duggan whose controversial death in a police shooting sparked the worst riots in modern British history.
