Burna Boy has now conquered the Stade de France twice, and the second time he only had a halftime break to work with.

The Nigerian star took the stage on Sunday, October 25, as the NFL staged its first ever regular-season game in France.

The matchup itself was a gritty one, with the Pittsburgh Steelers edging the New Orleans Saints 16 to 10. But for a big chunk of the crowd in Saint-Denis, the real event came in the middle, when Afrobeats took over a stadium more used to football of the other kind.

He didn’t open with one of his own signature records. Instead, Burna kicked things off with ‘4 Kampe II’, his collaboration with French-Haitian singer Joe Dwet File. It was a smart nod to the local audience that brought a Caribbean flavour to the start of the set.

From there he leaned into the hits. Ye’, the 2018 breakout from his album Outside that pushed him far beyond Nigeria, sat alongside ‘On The Low’ from African Giant and ‘Last Last’, the Love, Damini single built around a Toni Braxton sample that became one of his biggest global songs.

That’s a setlist built for people who might know only one or two of his tracks, and for diehards who know every word. Halftime slots are short and unforgiving, so there’s little room for deep cuts.

The France connection runs deeper than one game. In April 2025, Burna Boy became the first African artist to headline a solo concert at the Stade de France. That milestone made him an obvious pick when the league came to town.

Seen from the NFL’s side, the booking fits a clear pattern. The league has spent years taking regular-season games abroad, with London, Mexico City, Munich, Frankfurt and São Paulo all hosting.

Pairing a Paris debut with a star who had already filled the same venue on his own was a low-risk way to win over a new market.

For Afrobeats, it’s another big sporting stage. The genre has become a regular presence at major global events.

Burna, who won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album with Twice as Tall in 2021, has been one of its most consistent ambassadors on that circuit.

Highlights from the set are already doing the rounds online, showing a performer who treated a halftime slot like a full headline night.

With the NFL pushing further into Europe, attention now turns to who gets the next call, and Burna has just set a high bar for whoever follows.
