Sister Nancy

Sister Nancy is a pioneering Jamaican dancehall DJ and singer, widely recognized as the first female deejay in the genre. Emerging in the early 1980s from Kingston’s sound system culture, she broke barriers in a male-dominated industry with early hits such as “One Two” and the globally iconic “Bam Bam.” Although initially underappreciated in Jamaica, her music later gained massive international acclaim through widespread sampling in hip-hop, reggae, and electronic music. Her influence extends across generations, inspiring countless female artists in dancehall and reggae while maintaining her legacy as one of the most sampled voices in music history.
