Vybz Kartel has a habit of saying a lot in very few words, and his latest radio appearance was no different. Speaking with Zip 103 FM, the Worl’Boss let slip that Chris Brown will appear on his next project, “The Sun,” which he says arrives on December 18.

The bigger twist is how Kartel is framing the release. He described “The Sun” as a deluxe edition of “God and Time,” the album he put out earlier this year. Instead of a clean break, the new tracks will extend a body of work fans are still living with.

For anyone keeping score, this would not be the first time Kartel and Breezy have shared a track. The two already linked up this year on a raunchy party record that landed on Chris Brown’s album “Brown.”

That song gave the pairing a proof of concept, and bringing Brown back for Kartel’s own project looks like the logical return favour.

Kartel did not stop at the Chris Brown reveal. He also told the station that other major Afrobeats artists will feature on the deluxe, though he kept the names to himself. That leaves plenty of room for speculation, and dancehall and Afrobeats fans will be filling in the blanks on their own between now and the drop date.

The Afrobeats angle fits a wider pattern in Caribbean and West African music. The two scenes have traded rhythms, slang and audiences for years, and a Kartel record featuring top names from that world would put him right in the middle of the conversation.

For a veteran who built his reputation on Jamaican streets and sound systems, it is a clear signal that he is thinking about a global audience.

The context around Kartel makes all of this land differently. He spent more than a decade behind bars before the Privy Council in London quashed his murder conviction in March 2024, and he walked free that July after prosecutors chose not to pursue a retrial.

Even while locked up, he kept releasing music, but this current run is the first time he has been able to build projects and partnerships as a free man.

There is a cautious way to read the announcement too. Kartel teased the features in an interview rather than through an official tracklist, so the full lineup and final details remain unconfirmed until the project actually lands.

Teases have a way of shifting before release day, and nobody outside his camp knows exactly which Afrobeats stars made the cut.

Still, a firm date of December 18 gives fans something concrete to hold onto. Pairing a deluxe release with a returning Chris Brown feature and a mystery Afrobeats roster is a strong way to close out a year in which Kartel has already been busy.

For now, all eyes are on whatever Kartel says next, whether on the radio, on social media or in a surprise snippet. With the release date creeping closer, the names behind those Afrobeats features could surface any day.
