Gramps Morgan didn’t wait for a big press cycle. The official video for “People Like You” arrived with a tweet from the singer himself, the song title and a YouTube link.

That low-key rollout is the first thing that stands out. The post that announced it had no label statement, no teaser campaign and no long caption explaining what the song means or who appears in the clip.

For an artist with Gramps’ résumé, that’s an interesting choice. He’s spent decades as one of the voices of Morgan Heritage, the family group built around the children of reggae singer Denroy Morgan, which won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album with “Strictly Roots.

Fans who follow the Morgan family know the last couple of years have been hard. Peetah Morgan, Gramps’ brother and the group’s lead singer, died in February 2024, and new music from the family now arrives with that loss somewhere in the background.

The announcement doesn’t say whether “People Like You” touches on any of that. The title could point toward gratitude, toward community or toward something sharper, and the post leaves listeners to find out for themselves by pressing play.

There are two ways to read the bare-bones drop. One is that this is how a lot of established reggae acts work now, putting music straight into fans’ hands on YouTube and letting the audience handle promotion through shares and comments.

The other is that a release from someone with Gramps’ history deserves a bigger push than a single social post. A Grammy-winning name carries expectations, and a quiet launch risks the video getting lost in a crowded feed.

Gramps has also built a solo identity alongside his group work, which gives a standalone video like this a different weight. His name is on the title card, not the family banner, and that framing shapes how listeners will place the song in his catalog.

It’s not yet clear whether “People Like You” is a one-off or the start of a larger solo project. The post doesn’t mention an album, an EP or tour dates, and no other details about the release have been shared publicly so far.

For now, the video is up, and the conversation around it is just starting. How fans respond in the comments and on social media over the coming days will say a lot about where the song goes next.
