Dancehall star Chronic Law, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, was scheduled to appear before US Magistrate Judge Alfreda Sheppard in Albany, Georgia, on August 31. However, Dancehall Mag made rigorous checks and found no official docket update or reliable post-hearing report confirming that the appearance occurred, whether he entered a plea, or whether another court date was fixed.
Both the federal prosecutors and Chronic Law’s defense attorney, Ana Davide, must now go through the “discovery” process—exchanging evidence regarding the four recovered firearms and ammunition. The standard federal procedure dictates that his attorney, Ana Davide, must formally submit a written request called a Motion for Reconsideration of Detention Order to the U.S. District Court to to challenge his custody at the hands of authorities.
If the judge deems the new arguments sufficient, a new detention hearing will be scheduled in Albany, Georgia. The court will either uphold the original “no bond” order or set strict release conditions (such as cash bail, house arrest, or electronic ankle monitoring).Until then, the Law Boss remains federally charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and was previously detained without bond. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a US$250,000 fine.
