Only weeks after a head injury landed him in the hospital, Sean “Diddy” Combs has picked up a small bit of good news from behind bars. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate database now lists his release date as Feb. 6, 2028.

That’s nearly a month earlier than the date projected last month. It’s also a long way from the June 2028 estimate that appeared after his conviction.

The number has been bouncing around for a while now. Combs’ projected release has shifted forward and back several times, which isn’t unusual in the federal system, where dates change for a variety of reasons.

Combs, 56, was sentenced in October 2025 to more than four years in prison. That followed his July conviction for transporting prostitutes across state lines for the drug filled sex parties prosecutors described as “freak offs.”

The jury acquitted him of the heaviest charges in the case, sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, which is why his sentence landed in the range of years rather than decades.

His time inside has been anything but quiet. In late September, Combs was reportedly placed in solitary confinement after NBC News reported that he had allegedly obtained a contraband cellphone.

The same report claimed he had access to a tablet that had been “jailbroken” to strip out its restrictions.

The allegations didn’t stop there. NBC News also reported that Combs was allegedly stashing homemade booze, the stuff inmates call pruno or toilet wine, and enjoying perks like massages and special meals.

Then came October and the head injury. The circumstances behind it remain unclear, and no official account of what happened has been made public.

Soon after, Combs was moved out of Fort Dix, a low security federal prison in New Jersey. He landed at FCI Allenwood in Pennsylvania, another low security facility, where he’s now housed in the general population.

His camp is clearly tired of the headlines. “The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs’s life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news,” a spokesperson told NBC News.

The spokesperson pushed back on the idea that anything dramatic is unfolding. “The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence while awaiting the court’s decision on his appeal.”

That framing sits awkwardly next to the reporting, though. Contraband phones, a modified tablet and a stint in solitary aren’t exactly mundane details.

For critics who watched the trial closely, the alleged special treatment fed a long running frustration that wealth follows people even into a cell.

For supporters, the earlier date is a hopeful sign. For everyone else, the date still isn’t locked in, and the appeal could change the picture entirely.

So the February 2028 date may not be the final word. Combs’ release has already moved more than once, and with his appeal still waiting on a ruling, the next update could come from the courtroom rather than the prison database.
