DancehallMag is the leading independent publication covering Dancehall and Reggae music, the artists, and culture since 2019.

Runkus has a Peter Tosh feature, and he’s not treating it lightly. The Jamaican singer just dropped the official video for “Sheep,” a track credited as featuring the late Wailers co-founder. He’s billing it as the first glimpse into a larger project called “SUPERNOVA.”

The announcement came straight from Runkus on Instagram, where he called the visual “the first of many from the world of ‘SUPERNOVA.'”

He didn’t share a release date or tracklist for the wider project. For now, “Sheep” is the only window into whatever he’s building.

The most interesting name in the credits might be the director. Runkus says the video was helmed by Tavares Strachan, the Bahamian artist whose work usually lives in galleries and museums rather than on music video sets.

Runkus called him “the unconquerable @tavaresstrachan himself,” a nod to how much weight he places on the collaboration.

The video was shot and edited by Oliver Filmmaker and produced by B.A.S.E.C and Isolated Labs. Runkus co-produced the track himself alongside Prodj.mp3. That’s a small, tight team for something he’s pitching as the opening chapter of a bigger story.

The location is a curveball too. Instead of filming in Jamaica, the crew headed to Roscoe, New York, a small town in the Catskills. Runkus says they went there “to bring you a story unlike another,” so the setting looks like a deliberate choice rather than a matter of convenience.

The Tosh credit is where the conversation will likely split. Tosh died in 1987, and Runkus’s post doesn’t explain how his voice or material made it onto the track.

Some listeners will see it as a fitting tribute from a younger Rastafarian artist to one of the movement’s most uncompromising voices.

Others tend to approach posthumous features with more caution, wanting to know how the late artist’s work was sourced and framed.

Without more detail from Runkus or the Tosh estate, that question is still open. The post tags an official Peter Tosh account, which suggests some level of involvement, though it doesn’t spell out the terms.

Runkus is clearly reaching for something larger than a one-off single. He closed his post with “let the story begin, give this one all the Grammys. emmys. oscars,” plus “rasta deh ya” and an Ethiopian flag.

It’s playful, but the Rastafarian framing lines up with Tosh’s legacy and with the hashtags he chose, including #rastafari and #petertosh.

Whether “Sheep” lands as a standalone moment or makes more sense once “SUPERNOVA” fills in around it is anyone’s guess right now.

Runkus signed off with a simple “stay tuned,” and he’s promising more videos from the same world. The story, as he put it, is only beginning.
