Police say Kodak Black wanted the cash but not the bag it came in. According to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office report, the rapper repeatedly tried to get money found during a search handed over to him, calling it business money, while refusing to claim the bag or anything else inside it.
That detail sits at the center of a new drug trafficking charge. Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was arrested Wednesday in Florida over an alleged MDMA incident from last year.
The 28-year-old was awaiting a court hearing Thursday afternoon on the charge. The case goes back to Nov. 24, 2025, when officers in Orlando responded to a 911 call about gunshots and began searching vehicles parked nearby.
The report says Kapri walked up to the scene and watched officers as they went through the cars. In one trunk, police say they found a bag holding 56 grams of cannabis in sealed, marked packaging, plus a metal container with a pink pill substance inside.
A sheriff’s deputy wrote that a pink pill from the search tested positive for MDMA. An officer also said he found a separate bag containing Kapri’s ID, money and a bottle of Promethazine Hydrochloride, a prescription medication.

Investigators went a step further by pulling from social media. The report included an image from Kodak Black’s Instagram showing a pair of pink scissors and a pink bag, which police allege matched items uncovered during the search and held the contraband.
The ownership question is where the case could get messy. “Everyone on scene was asked if the bag or its contents belonged to any of them, and all denied ownership, including Bill Kapri,” the report alleged.
Then comes the money. “When Kapri was informed of the money in the bag, he attempted multiple times to have the money turned over to him, claiming it belonged to his business,” the report said, adding that he “would not claim the bag or any of its contents.”
Police clearly see that as a link between Kapri and the drugs. A defense team could just as easily argue that wanting your business cash back is not the same as owning everything sitting next to it, and that an Instagram photo of a pink bag proves very little on its own.

So far, that side of the story hasn’t been heard. Kapri’s attorney did not immediately respond to ABC News for comment.
For fans, the arrest lands with a familiar weight. Kodak Black has spent much of his career dealing with legal trouble alongside his music, including a 2022 traffic stop in Florida where police said they found 31 oxycodone tablets, and another arrest on drug and weapons allegations after which he left jail covering his face with cash.
He also received a commutation from Donald Trump in January 2021 on a federal weapons sentence, a moment many saw as a reset.
This latest charge puts him back in front of a Florida judge, with the next steps depending on what comes out of Thursday’s hearing.
