DancehallMag is the leading independent publication covering Dancehall and Reggae music, the artists, and culture since 2019.

Fireboy DML showed up in a tailored red suit with bandages wrapped around his head, which is exactly the kind of image that gets people guessing.

That cinematic teaser arrived with the news that his fifth studio album, “ZUKO!”, lands on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The YBNL Nation singer confirmed the date on Instagram, and the visuals hint at a bolder narrative direction for this next phase of his career. He hasn’t explained what the bandages or the title mean yet, which leaves plenty of room for theories over the coming weeks.

“ZUKO!” follows “Adedamola”, the 2024 project that put his given name front and centre. Before that came his 2019 debut “Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps”, then “Apollo” in 2020 and “Playboy” in 2022, so he has kept a pretty steady pace of a full album every year or two.

The new record runs 13 tracks and comes through YBNL Nation and EMPIRE. That setup has backed his push toward a global audience, a push that really took off when “Peru” blew up in 2021 and picked up a remix with Ed Sheeran.

The clearest clue about where “ZUKO!” might go is “Imali”. On it, Fireboy teams up with Jazzwrld and Thukuthela and slides into South African three step Afro House rhythms, a tempo and texture quite far from the mellow, melodic Afrobeats he built his name on.

That move fits a wider pattern, with Nigerian and South African scenes trading sounds more freely over the past few years. Longtime listeners who fell for his soft, romantic songwriting may be curious how much of that experimental energy actually makes it onto the album.

Other recent singles point somewhere else. “Dopamine” and “Story” came out ahead of “Imali”, and the three songs together suggest a record that could swing between familiar Fireboy territory and fresh regional influences.

Then there’s the question of who else turns up. The run of international collaborations leading into the release hints at a guest list that stretches well beyond Lagos, though no tracklist or features have been confirmed.

Fireboy has always been at his best when his voice sits at the centre, with his distinct delivery and pen carrying songs that might otherwise feel simple.

A red suit and a bandaged head suggest he wants this chapter to look and sound different, and with the date now locked in, the rollout is only just getting started.
