Silk The Shocker, one of the label’s core artists, has opened up about what it was actually like when Snoop arrived in Baton Rouge and became part of the No Limit family.
The signing was not just a business move. It reshaped the daily reality of everyone living inside that circle.
Silk described the uncertainty that surrounded the deal in its early stages. For a stretch of time, nobody inside the camp knew whether Master P would actually land him.
“For a while it was in the we didn’t know if he was going to get him or not,” he said, “and then all of a sudden he just showed up out of nowhere.”
The arrival carried real weight for Silk, who had grown up admiring Snoop long before they shared a label. I was a big fan of Snoop,” he said, and the moment the West Coast icon actually appeared in Louisiana, that admiration did not fade. It intensified.
What made the situation feel surreal was not just the signing itself but where Snoop ended up living. The No Limit crew had collectively settled into a gated community in Baton Rouge, and they picked out a home there for Snoop as well.
“We all had got houses in this place called a country club in Baton Rouge,” Silk explained. “Snoop had one. We picked out one for him.”
Seeing one of rap’s biggest names planted in that same neighborhood, going about everyday life, was something Silk said took time to process. I’m looking at Snoop like, man, Snoop Dogg is in Baton Rouge in the country club house,” he recalled.
The two grew genuinely close during that period, with Silk noting that Snoop stayed at his house for a stretch of time.
When asked whether the signing felt as significant to the No Limit crew as it did to the fans watching from the outside, Silk did not hesitate. “If not bigger, for sure,” he said. “It was legendary, for sure.”
