Deva Bratt’s Family Sets Up GoFundMe Page After He Was Detained By ICE

Dancehall artist Deva Bratt, whose birth name is Sheldon Smith, is reportedly no longer in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE). The artist was reportedly detained by law enforcement officials after a traffic stop.

Sources informed DancehallMag that the deejay was no longer being detained but had an upcoming court appearance.

The deejay’s family started a GoFundMe account to raise donations to meet a target of $4500 USD to defray his legal expenses.

On the GoFundMe page, his family shared a statement suggesting that the singer has been wrongfully accused and that he would eventually be exonerated.

“Our beloved Sheldon has been wrongfully arrested and taken into custody, facing possible deportation. This entire situation has been heartbreaking for the family,” the statement read.

According to the GoFundMe page, Deva Bratt’s legal expenses are estimated at $8,500 to retain a lawyer, and make a bond application. However, the family needs just US$4,500.

Deva Bratt’s run-in with the law was captured on social media by entertainment news outlet, ‘Dancehall Bomb’ which showed the deejay being detained by the I.C.E while engaging in a tense exchange of words with the officers. The detention escalated from a simple traffic stop where Deva Bratt was allegedly not wearing his seatbelt.

The situation escalated when Deva Bratt said combatively: “Come on bro, you can’t let your ego get to you bro, you gotta calm down.”

One of the officers apparently said, “We have the exact right to.”

Deva rebutted, “You weren’t in exact right because I was in my yard. Eventually, after some more terse exchanges between Deva and the cops, the video ended with officers bringing the suspect to a location.
