Dubbi aka 1bing Preps For ‘Dunce Season’ In The UK

UK-based, Jamaica-born dancehall artist Dubbi is logging on to the ‘Dunce’ movement. The artist, who is known as 1Bing, welcomed Jamal aka Dunceman to the UK with a preview of his upcoming DropTop Records release, “Dunce Season,” inspired by the Dunce Movement.

“It was great look, you know that I have to represent for my fans in Birmingham. It was real joy to perform alongside Jamal, one of the rising stars out of Montego Bay, who is pushing dancehall to a new level. The Dunce movement ah pick up in the UK,” Dubbi said.

The Side Chick singer performed alongside rising dancehall star Jamal at the King of Clubs on June 6th in Birmingham in the UK.

Dunceman, also known as Jamal, is also associated with the “RATED D for DUNCE” EP, produced by Jamal Muzik and Dario MAGiX. The EP explores themes of family, music, and personal identity, drawing inspiration from church gatherings and family celebrations.

Dubbi scored a major street hit with his ‘ Side Chick’ song which is a bona fide hit on the dancehall club scene in the United Kingdom, popping up local mixtapes and street playlists.

“When it plays in the dance, people sing it word for word. It is like an anthem on the Birmingham dancehall scene,” Dubbi said.

The single, delivered on a Fiesta rhythm, delves into themes of relationships, loyalty, and the complexities of modern love. He even samples Frisco Kid with the lines: ‘gal pon the side juck the best/all when she ready fi kiss and caress’.

Dubbi released sparkling visuals with flashy cars, fur coats and booty bouncing babes which have racked up over 128,000 views since its release.

The popularity of the song has seen him opening for top artistes like Skeng and Armanii in shows in Birmingham and London in England.

He performed in may alongside Nation Boss and General B at a show at the Chambers nightclub in Walsall, Birmingham.

“The Nation Boss show was great. The selectors never played my personal riddims so I performed my on the Pepperseed and the early 90s riddim, the fans dem loved it, and mi get a different level of respect from the audience, and the other artistes,” Dubbi said.

Dubbi is also promoting ‘Tun Up’ on the New Beginning rhythm alongside Popcaan, Chronic Law, Jahvinci and Qrulen.

Dubbi’s roots trace back to Chisholm Avenue in Kingston 13, where he was immersed in the vibrant rhythms of Jamaica’s dancehall culture.

A former student of Norman Manley High School, Dubbi was affectionately called ‘Dooby’ by his friends – a nod to the Scooby-Doo cartoon. Inspired by the cultural icons around him, Dubbi’s passion for music was ignited when a friend encouraged him to pursue it seriously. A pivotal moment came when he auditioned for the legendary singer Ken Boothe, who gave him a nod of approval.
