Gyptian‘s 2010 hit Hold You (Hold Yuh) is now certified 2X Platinum in the United Kingdom.

According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song was issued the BRIT Certified Multi-Platinum (2X) award on Friday (April 19) after it surpassed 1,200,000 units sold in the UK as measured by The Official Charts Company.

Hold You—the title track on Gyptian’s third studio album of the same name, released via VP Records—had reached Platinum status (600,000 units) in May 2018, 8 years after its release. It took another six years to double that figure in the country.

Neil “Diamond” Edwards, a senior director at VP who has been the A&R for Gyptian since the beginning of his career, was pleased about the song’s latest milestone.

“I am very proud of Gyptian and what he has achieved with this record,” he told DancehallMag. “It is a big accomplishment to create something that will continuously transcend generations of music lovers.”

Produced by Ricky Blaze, Hold You is often praised for its catchy hook and rhythmic beat, characterized by a six-chord piano arrangement and a bassline. A remix featuring rapper Nicki Minaj further amplified the track’s appeal and helped to make it a club favorite and staple on the international charts.

It spent an impressive 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 77, and 19 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at No. 16. The Hold You album peaked at No. 186 on the Billboard 200 chart, and No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

The success of the track also earned Gyptian the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Artist in 2010.

The official music video currently has over 132 million views on YouTube, while the song has over 207 million plays on Spotify.

Gyptian’s second most consumed track in the UK is Wine Slow, which was certified Silver in the country last year.

His 15-track Hold You album also featured the songs Nah Let Go, Beautiful Lady, So Much In Love, and Tease Me (Haffi Easy).
