Fans of Reggae/Dancehall artist Jane Macgizmo might have noticed that she was missing from the scene for several years… the good news is she’s back!

The groovy singer made a statement comeback with the single Can’t Get You Off My Mind, her first single since Blazin over three years ago, a collaboration with Koffee on the Grammy Award-winning Rapture EP. The track is complemented by a visualizer on YouTube also created by Macgizmo, showcasing her dedication to integrating her musical and visual talents.

Born Denieze Anderson, the artist’s creative journey began in Mandeville, with a foundation in classical music and film production. Her career officially kicked off in 2016 with her Indie-Reggae hit Babylon, and she has since captivated listeners with her musical versatility and dynamic visual storytelling.

DancehallMag caught up with Jane on her comeback, as well as the direction she’s looking to take in the near, and extended future.

Is there a reason you took a hiatus from music?

Yes honestly, I was burnt out, doing everything for myself and another management situation gone sour was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. And on top of that I was about to release my EP and the pandemic hit so it was an uncertain time for everyone and I just focused on my personal life and enjoying life in the meantime because it was just music music music so I appreciated that time for myself. And you know what they say, don’t give up, just take a break.

Why did you think now was the right time to release a new track?

I wanted to do it earlier but I didn’t have the time because I was raising my son, but now he is off to school and I don’t think one more year could go by without me releasing my music, in terms of the interest still being there.

How would you summarize it?

It’s a fusion of Afro-Dancehall with some Pop sounds and it’s a song about finding someone who is just stuck in your life, even if they aren’t perfect. I believe everyone has some toxic ways about them but it’s about finding someone who is worth it and working towards our best selves.

Who is the producer?

The producer is TeflonZincfence & Gangstamadeit, a new producer from Gambia in Africa.

What has the reception been like from listeners/ supporters so far?

People love it and they say it’s just unique, its own sound,  own lane. I like real organic growth and it is taking time to get traction, but I’m taking the promotion one step at a time.

Will you be releasing music consistently?

Yes I will be. That is my current goal in my entire life so expect a new single soon!

Which other artist/s would you like to collaborate with and why?

Mystic Marley because I just love her sound! So good. I’ve always wanted to collab with Popcaan because I’m a huge fan, I just think his tone always brings vibes.  And, Fave from Africa—her sound is dope! I mean I have a lot but I’ll just give you those three for now.

What would you say makes you unique as an artist?

I think my tone, my writing style, my look and just my overall sound!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I always get this question and I feel like you plan and God has a different idea. I’ve learnt to really live in the present because that’s all we have control of. I do hope I will have a lucrative career in years though and travel the world doing music.
