Smokin’ Love, a 2014 collaboration between American Reggae band Stick Figure and Bermudian Reggae singer Collie Buddz, was certified Gold in the United States last month.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced the certification on November 29, after the song reached the sales and streaming equivalent of 500,000 units sold in the country.

Smokin’ Love, which starts off with a piano riff on a one-drop beat, features vocals from band leader Scott Woodruff, while Collie Buddz added flair on the third verse. It appeared on Stick Figure’s 2015 album Set In Stone, which has spent 282 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, peaking at No. 1.

This is the first RIAA certification for Stick Figure and Collie Buddz.

Smokin’ Love going RIAA certified Gold completely independently is a testament to a great song and hard work from Stick Figure and Collie Buddz,” the band’s manager and Ineffable Music Group CEO Thomas Cussins told DancehallMag.

“They have been bringing music to the people via touring and releasing consistent content for many years and through this have helped grow discovery of reggae music in the US and beyond.”

Stick Figure’s other popular tracks include World On Fire with Slightly Stoopid, the title track from their 2019 album, Weight Of Sound, from their 2012 album Burial Ground, Fire On The Horizon, Sound Of The Sea, and Choice Is Yours with Slightly Stoopid, from their Set In Stone album.

Collie Buddz is known for his hit songs Come Around, Mamacita, Blind To You, and Love & Reggae.

His latest studio album, Take It Easy, includes Brighter Days, Twisted Agenda with Bounty Killer, Close To You, Hold Firm, and the title track Take It Easy.

Buddz’s Cali Roots Riddim 2023, a 23-track riddim compilation which features Busy Signal, Gondwana, SOJA, The Movement, Khalia, Hector Roots Lewis, Luciano, Anthony B, and more, is one of five albums nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album at the upcoming 66th Annual Awards.

A first-time nominee, the 39-year-old had expressed surprise at the nomination. “Wow! Very unexpected”, he wrote on Instagram.
