Shatta Wale Rebukes Fans For Mocking Stonebwoy Over Grammy Snub
Ghananian artist Shatta Wale has come out in defence of his nemesis Stonebwoy, after some of his compatriots took to social media to jeer the Everything artiste for missing out on a Grammy nomination once again.
Stonebwoy, who performed on Rebel Salute earlier this year, had submitted his latest album, 5th Dimension, for consideration for nomination in both the Rest Reggae Album and Best Global Music album categories.
However, he and other Ghanaian musicians who had submitted their projects for consideration at the 2024 Grammy Awards failed to cop nominations, resulting in Shatta’s fans celebrating his downfall.
However, Shatta, instead of joining his fans to laugh at Stonebwoy’s expense, took to TikTok to reprimand his followers, telling them that it was not the time to laugh at the misfortunes of Stonebwoy, when there was still a lot of work to be done in the Ghanaian music industry.
The Blow Up artist also referred to the actions of the mockers as foolish and threatened to block them from his social media pages.
“Anybody who has posted or is mocking Stonebwoy that he wasn’t nominated for Grammys, should delete it as soon as possible. It is a stupid thing to do! Total nonsense. There are songs we need to promote and that is the focus. Forget everything else. Everyone should delete that nonsense bullshit thing,” Shatta stated on TikTok.
“If Stonebwoy did not secure a nomination, should that be your joy? God did not create me to watch people fall. I want everyone to rise. I want everyone to be successful and make money,” he added.
The Best Reggae Album category saw Buju Banton’s Born for Greatness, Beenie Man’s Simma, Collie Buddz’s Cali Roots Riddim 2023, Burning Spear’s No Destroyer, and Julian Marley and Antaeus’ Colors of Royal emerging the five nominees.
Following its release on April 28, this year, 5th Dimension debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Char after it sold 1,000 units from sales and streaming in the United States during its first week, including 100 copies in pure album sales.
The 17-track album included collabs with Jamaican stars Dexta Daps on Secret Lover and Shaggy on My Sound, as well as Afrobeats artists.
Over the years, Stonebwoy has collaborated with several other Jamaican artists, including Kranium on Talk to Me. He also featured on the remix of Guns of Navarone from Sean Paul’s Grammy-nominated album Live N Livin, as well as linked with Kabaka Pyramid on Suit and Tie and Borders; Motion with Jahmiel, Africa x Jamaica with Morgan Heritage and Happiness with Jah Vinci.
Where the rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy is concerned, it came to a head at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards when Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage while receiving the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year Award.
According to reports out of Ghana, the melee began when Shatta Wale, along with his henchmen galloped onto the stage when Stonebwoy was about to receive the award, this for the fifth consecutive year.
“The show was temporarily put on hold amidst the pandemonium in the Dome and some of the patrons started leaving the auditorium when the chaos started,” one Ghananian media outlet reported.
Shatta Wale, whose My Level and Gringo won the Highlife Song of the Year and the Reggae, Dancehall Song of the Year respectively, along with Stonebwoy, were subsequently banned indefinitely from the Awards.
The organizers had also stripped both men of all the awards they won at the event and ordered them to return the plaques received on the night, immediately.
