The Unruly Boss Popcaan has teamed up with British shoemaker Clarks to debut a customized Wallabee Boot on November 10, 2023. According to Highsnobiety, the red and black shoe, which feature the St. Thomas native’s signature ‘Unruly’ slang, will be sold for $190.

Popcaan, whose connection with Clarks dates back to his 2010 hit song with Vybz Kartel and Gaza Slim, said he’s excited about this new venture.

“The Wallabee is my favorite Clarks [shoe] so it’s only right,” he says on why he chose that particular silhouette. “Red, black and purple are unruly colors. Big up Clarks we going harder on the next design in store,” he told Highsnobiety.

The deejay, whose real name is Andrae Sutherland, said he fell in love with Clarks from as early as childhood but, unfortunately, could not afford it then. Fast forward to years later, he can sport them as he pleases.

“Wearing a pair of Clarks makes you a part of the street culture, so when politicians and them wear Clarks they think it’s cool to the streets,” he said.

“The brand means a lot to my culture so it’s naturally a part of Jamaican history known worldwide. We all take to it and I guess as kids live, they’ll learn.”

In August, Clarks launched “The Dancehall Collection” to pay homage to the genre and Jamaica for fully embracing the British shoemaker’s iconic styles.

Released on August 22, 2023, the collection saw the Wallabee and Wallabee Boot silhouettes in new designs consisting of the colors green, blush pink, and blue, which are said to be reminiscent of the island’s bold culture.

Besides the introduction of the Wallabee Boot in Cactus Green, Clarks Original’s Desert Trek and Desert Boot were “also altered to include the usage of premium suedes and tonal embroidered stripes that subtly nod to the pinstriped suits found on old photographs taken of dancehall goers,” according to FootWearNews.

The new batch also included the Wallabee Boot in “Berry Leather” and the Desert Boot in “Rust Brown Suede.”

In the meantime, since Clarks teased this new collaboration with Poppy online, fans have already started to create excitement.

“I need like 5 pairs 😩❤️,” said one fan.

Another said, “long time it fi ‘appen 👊🏽🤟🏾”

“Man a fashion icon league ones reach.. 🔥🔥🔥,” one more supporter contributed.

The Original Clarks brand has been an accent on album covers and uttered in over 200 songs by Dancehall and Reggae artists dating back to the 1970s.

Among them Trinity, Assassin (now Agent Sasco), Jahvillani, and No-Maddz. Songs like Trash and Ready by Super Cat, and Wah Dem A Do by Eek-A-Mouse are must-play Dancehall Clarks classics, but none more popular than the 2010 trilogy by Vybz Kartel: Clarks featuring Popcaan and Gaza Slim, Clarks Again, and Clarks 3.
