South African singer Tyla has been hitting the studio and enjoying the water in Portland, Jamaica, while spending time on the island.

The 21-year-old shared a few photos and video clips from her trip in an Instagram post on Friday, which showed her soaking up the sun, sea and sand at the infamous Frenchman’s Cove.

Besides the leisure activities, she also posted photos of herself during what appeared to be recording sessions.

Tyla shot to fame following the release of the catchy track Water, which has so far spent four weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, currently at No. 21, and nine weeks on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart, including three at No. 1.

According to Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate, the single, released on FAX Records / Epic Records, registered 11.4 million official U.S. streams in the tracking week of October 20 to 26—an 18% jump from the prior week.

The report added that “the track lifts 14-10 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs and takes the chart’s weekly Greatest Gainer honour.”

The report, posted on November 2, further stipulated that, “Water also sold 2000 downloads in the tracking week, an 11% improvement on the prior week and enough to keep the track at No. 3 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales for a second week. The single’s radio airplay surges to 15.1 million in total audience, a 39% swell compared to the previous week, and prompts its No. 39 entrance on the all-genre Radio Songs chart…”

As for its official music video, Water has racked up over 30 million views in just four weeks.

Tyla’s local fans have been welcoming her virtually. They flocked her comments to express enthusiasm about her decision to work and play in Jamaica.

“My fav is in Jamaica 🇯🇲 why am I not cooking for this girl,” one fan playfully asked.

“Tyla I am glad to see you on the beautiful island 🏝️ 🇯🇲,” another said.

Some fans were a bit more curious about what she’s cooking up.

“The island where successful breakout African artists go for vacation, or is there a water remix in the works? Dancehall style 🤔” added another follower.
