Dancehall entertainer Mavado wished his incarcerated son Dantay Brooks a ‘Happy Birthday’ on Monday, April 17.

Brooks, who just turned 21, is currently serving a life sentence after he was convicted of murder, arson, and possession of an illegal firearm.

The Gully Gad wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram along with an old photo taken with his son that read, “In god we trust my son and time is the master birthday boy.🙏🏿💪🏿❤️”.

Brooks, who was 18 at the time of his sentencing, was found guilty of killing Lorenzo Thomas in the St. Andrew community of Cassava Piece on June 5, 2018.

The sentence, which was handed down by Justice Leighton Pusey in the Home Circuit Court on March 2021, ordered Brooks to serve at least 22 years before being eligible for parole. He was also sentenced to 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm and sentenced to 15 years for arson which is to be served concurrently.

“Happy birthday 🎈 God a God,” Dancehall deejay Macka Diamond commented on the Mavado’s IG post.

Others such as music producer, Sponge1 Music added, “Blessed Strong You g Gully💯💯🙏Freedom Street.” Another follower wrote, “Happy earth strong Young G God timing is more important 👏🏾⏳.”

The Father Gad deejay, 42, has been steadfast in sending birthday greetings to Dantay since his incarceration.

In 2021, he shared a similar IG post with the caption, “Happy birthday son love you kid.💪🏿👊🏿🔑.” Then in 2022 he reminded folks that “My big son his birthday was two days ago happy birthday son a just time and in god we trust 🙏🏿❤️🔑💯.”

Mavado is a father of six children – three girls, Daisy, Daniela, and Skye, and three boys, Vuitton, Gavyn, and Dantay.

Dantay’s lawyer, Peter Champagnie had promised to appeal Justice Pusey’s sentencing, stating, “We have fertile ground on which to effect an appeal. We respect the judge’s decision, but we will be acting on the right of persons to challenge the ruling,” he told DancehallMag in 2021.

Brooks and his co-accused Andre Hinds were among five men who invaded Thomas’ home and shot him. Thomas’ father, who was in another room at the scene of the crime, provided crucial witness testimony which included the gang’s attempts to sever Thomas’ head and the use of gasoline to set the body and house on fire.

Following the verdict, Mavado blamed the basis of his teenage son’s conviction on “corruption” and contended that neither he nor his co-accused were given a fair trial.

“I promise to fight for the lives of these two innocent youths. It’s like my son was found guilty before trial, but I’m going to point out everything and the injustice one day at a time,” the deejay vowed at the time.
