A judge has dismissed disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges against the Protocol deejay Skeng after attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend argued for the case to be dismissed.

When the case was mentioned after 2 pm today in the case management court, Townsend contended the matter had vegetated for too long “without proper disclosure” and that was, in and of itself, an “abuse of process.”

Justice Leighton Morris agreed with Townsend’s arguments and dismissed the matter.

Earlier in the day, there had been an administrative mixup as the deejay’s case, which should have been heard in case management court, was actually listed in the Corporate Area Criminal court. When Skeng did not appear, a bench warrant was issued for the deejay’s arrest.

When Skeng turned up at 2 pm for his case management appearance, the bench warrant was vacated, and the case’s jurisdiction was passed to the case management court.

The artist, whose real name is Kevan Douglas, had been charged in relation to an incident at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston last year.

He was jointly charged with Shaquille Kelly and Cara Wilson.

Police reported that Skeng was involved in a confrontation with officials at NMIA about 1:50 pm in May 2022. During the incident, he was allegedly pepper sprayed by the police. He was attempting to board a flight to Trinidad, where he was the headliner of an event.

He was subsequently charged, but allowed to leave the island.

The Street Cred deejay last appeared in court in November, when the prosecution was ordered to present the defense team – led by attorney Christopher Townsend – with raw footage of the incident at the NMIA.

According to Townsend, they were presented an edited version of the encounter, which only saw Skeng as the aggressor, and not when he was pepper sprayed.

Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Skeng

Skeng has experienced a meteoric rise in stardom.

There are reports that he has inked a deal with Nicki Minaj’s new imprint at Republic Records, but this is not yet confirmed.

Over the weekend, the deejay was photographed with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne backstage at Rolling Loud California, following the rappers’ performance at Rolling Loud California.

He released his Beast of the Era EP last year, and is known for a slew of hit singles such as the Likkle Miss remix with Nicky Minaj, Protocol, Heaven Passport (with Intence), Gvnman Shift, London, and Street Cred.
