While we can thank Vybz Kartel for giving many of the female talents in this list their ‘big break’ in music, it doesn’t take away from the fact that these women have remained some of the brightest stars in the Dancehall fraternity.

19. Baby Father – D’Angel

Besides the catchy hook, “You know you baby father?” prodded by Kartel, Baby Father was memorable for D’Angel‘s impressive snapback in the official video, released months after she gave birth to her and Beenie Man‘s son. “Gwaan go look pan it [the video] and see how girl trim down,” she once said. “I couldn’t go hard in the gym yet because I just gave birth, but I did a lot of cardio, and that helped,” she added.

18. You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No) – Rihanna

Bajan superstar Rihanna produced an unlikely duet with the Worl Boss back in 2005, covering Dawn Penn’s 1994 mega-hit, You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No) for Riri’s debut studio album Music of the Sun (2005). Sticking to his gallis persona, Kartel doesn’t take “no” for an answer in his verses, slyly singing, “Don’t you tell me no, please to tell me yes …”

17. BackShot – Jodi Couture

Burrowing the chorus from Lady Saw and Spragga Benz‘s 2001 song of the same name, Kartel and Jodi Couture took the ‘back shot’ narrative to even more lascivious levels in this 2019 track. The Simeon Hedge-directed music video portrays raw Dancehall dance and street culture, and spotlights the US-based Jamaican rapper dominating the chorus and her rap verse on the track.

16. Like Christmas – Sheba

Ishawna and Sheba took on this sexy collaboration Like Christmas (Like Xmas) in 2010. The two exuded effortless synergy, going back and forth about a racy bedroom rendezvous that’s ‘like christmas’.

15. Amazing – Stefflon Don

In this infectious cut, Amazing with Jamaican-British rapper Stefflon Don, Kartel teases his usual sexual energy to excite the ladies. “How you feeling? Let me feel it, body feel right so mi know yuh h** blessed …” he sings on the Dunw3ll produced song, while Don carries the hook to express her flairs in the bedroom.

14. Cast Iron Heart – Jada Kingdom

Cast Iron Heart with Dancehall singer Jada Kingdom may very well be one of the most sentimental love songs ever recorded by Vybz Kartel. The Worl’ Boss lends his singing voice to match the euphonic flows of Kingdom in an emotional exchange on the track which appeared on Kartel’s 2020 To Tanesha album. It was a dream come true for Kingdom, who told VIBE that she came to tears when the Worl’ Boss sent her a DM (direct message) wanting to work with her. Even though she has already locked another collab with Kartel – her Heavy remix – she aspires to do many more songs with the deejay.

Run Dancehall with Kartel and UK-based Dancehall singer Lisa Mercedez gave audiences a dance-ready party banger to close out the summer in 2020. In her short but very buzzy hook, Mercedez bolsters the Worl’ Boss’ claims to the Dancehall throne, as she effortlessly sings “Yoo, Di WorldBoss cya stall, Yo a Addi a d King and him a run Dancehall.”

11. Ride It – Shaneil Muir

In 2022, vocalist Shaneil Muir recruited Kartel for the single Ride It – a song delivering a potent exchange of expectations for what they promise each other will be an exciting ride. As the usually virtuous singer switched gears into the lewd underworld of Dancehall, fans flocked to the Shane Creative-directed music video which now sits at almost 9 million views.

6. Conjugal Visit – Spice

After his incarceration in 2011, Spice, hoping to produce another smash hit with the Worl Boss, revived an unreleased song they’d previously recorded and dubbed it Conjugal Visit. She would go on to shoot the XTreme Arts-directed music video with a Vybz Kartel look-a-like to send fans wild. The video garnered over 2 million views on WorldStarHipHop within one day. The song later appeared on the QOD’s debut EP So Mi Like It in 2014.

5. Virginity – Gaza Indu

Kartel tapped Gaza Indu, one of the five original female members of the Portmore Empire to voice on the single Virginity in 2009. The very explicit single, produced by Rvssian (Jeans & Fitted, Freaky Gal, Go Go Club) would journal their ‘first time’ in vivid details, producing a true hardcore Dancehall tune for the times.

Despite the controversy that followed its release, producer Elvis Redwood of So Unique Records probably made the right call to put the then up-and-coming Shenseea on Kartel’s Loodi, which made the song a hit and helped to catapult her career.

3. Gal A Weh Do You – Sheba

Sheba Di Diva, one of the original first ladies of the now defunct GAZA Empire, appeared with Kartel on the infectious Gal A Weh Do You back in 2010. The song parodied a spiteful partner confronting her cheating spouse, asking in the verses, “Suppose mi sleep with you best friend, deh wid you enemy, have a youth fi you uncle, tell me how you would ah feel? … Everything you do mi, mi ado you back!” A rueful yet evasive Kartel would reply on the hook, “Gal a weh mi do make you do mi dat?”

2. One Man – Gaza Slim (Vanessa Bling)

Vybz Kartel introduced the world to his new GAZA recruit Vanessa Bling aka Gaza Slim back in 2010 with the release of this monster collab One Man. The then 19-year-old bodied the NotNice Records and Adidjahiem Records-produced riddim with her signature voice.

1. Romping Shop – Spice

Topping our list is Romping Shop featuring Spice. Released in 2009, this iconic Dancehall hit invited listeners inside one of the duo’s spicy encounters. However, the original track (and best version), which had sampled American singer Ne-Yo’s Miss Independent, had to be pulled after the King and Queen Of Dancehall were threatened with a cease and desist, following their failure to obtain clearance. In 2022, Ne-Yo claimed that he wanted to clear it, but producer NotNice explained that the cease and desist was enforced, despite an offer to give up publishing.
