Sizzla Announces New Album, 13 Show Tour of Japan

Reggae/Dancehall superstar Sizzla Kalonji has announced that he will be releasing a new album, and undertaking a 13-show tour of Japan.

Dubbed Everlasting, the tour, which is set to commence on April 25, will see Sizzla performing on 13 consecutive nights, the last of which will be on May 7.

“Blessed love one and all 🙏🏾.  Japan get ready for the blessings,” Sizzla noted on his Instagram page, where he made the announcement to the delight of his fans.

Sizzla has spent a few occasions doing shows in Japan, but over the years, had committed to spending copious amounts of time touring the African continent performing in countries such as Ghana, The Gambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and South Africa.

His last tour of Japan on record was titled No Pain and was done in 2010.

Sizzla has already indicated that 2023 will be a busy year for him.  The Dry Cry artist also announced days ago, that he will be performing live at the Lovers and Friends event, which has been dubbed “The Ultimate Valentines Concert” set for Plantation Cove at Priory in St Ann, on Saturday, February 18.

NEW ALBUM

In the meantime, Sizzla has announced that he is working on another album, for which 13 tracks have so far been recorded, among them, one in which he promises to burn more fire on pagans for the new year.  The album, he says, will be released under his Kalonji Music Productions.

“Suh wi working on a new project… Suh wi have 13 songs so far.  This is the new year album that we have been working on.  So the project after Makonnen, this where we at right now,” he explained in a recent Instagram post, about the album, which will take him closer to the 100-album mark.

In March last year, Sizzla referred to musically as the King of Melodies, had announced that he was gearing up to release another album titled Africa 54, which according to him, was dedicated fully to the 54 countries which make up the African continent.

His last album was the 12-track production Rise Up, released in 2022.

On A High was released in 2021 on Independence Day, eight years after the release of his 70th album, The Messiah, which copped a Grammy nomination.

Million Times, released in 2020, was dedicated solely to “the ladies”.

Sizzla has the distinction of being one of the most prolific songwriters in Reggae and Dancehall, with a catalogue of more than 1000 songs, as well as 80 albums, more than 20 of which have hit the Billboard charts.

The August Town native released his first album Burning Up in 1996 at the age of 20 on the RAS Records label.  That album consisted of 12 tracks, among them We Want Love, How Much, Can’t Hurt The Mind, The Poor, Gun Ting Don’t Pay, among others.

The Grammy-nominated Roots Reggae album The Messiah, was self-executive-produced by Sizzla, and was released back in May 2013.  That album contained songs such as Psalms 121, Look How Many Years, Center Of Attraction, No Wicked Man, the title track The Messiah, Chant Dem Down, Dem Nuh Business as well as Suffer So Much.

The 15-track production also included tracks such as Good Love, One Life, Children Bless, May Di Powerz, Need You Right Now, What A Joy and Better Come.

His second album, Black Woman and Child, was produced by the late Bobby Digital and was released in September 1997. The title track still remains as one of the August Town native’s biggest hits and is regarded as a classic.

Black Woman and Child and Da Real Thing have been acclaimed internationally as his best albums.

Da Real Thing, also comprises 15 tracks and was released in 2002.  That album contained a mix of Dancehall and Reggae songs, all of which are considered classics, among them Mash Dem Down, Simplicity, Solid as a Rock, Rejoice, Thank You Mamma, Woman I Need You, Bless Up, Why Should I, Got It Right Here, Just One of Those Days, Trod Mt. Zion, Its Amazing and Boom & Go Through.
