Reggae singer Jah Cure will return to a Netherlands court for a pro forma hearing on January 24.

The Prison Walls singer is facing an appeal lodged by prosecutors of the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service, against his acquittal on an attempted murder charge in the European country.  He had been convicted, instead, of attempted manslaughter and was sentenced to six years.

In his first trial, prosecutors had requested eight years for the Reggae singer.

“Because of the appeal…the case will be judged by the Court of Appeals for attempted manslaughter. We’re still awaiting a date for the hearing of the case,” Tuscha Essed, press officer of the Public prosecution to the Court of Appeals, told DancehallMag

“January 24th is the pro forma (the court decides if Jah Cure will stay in detention while awaiting trial, for the next 90 days). The pro forma hearing is scheduled from 11:10 to 11:20 hrs. The decision usually follows the same day,” Essed said.

Jah Cure, 43, was convicted of the lesser offense of attempted manslaughter on March 22 in relation to the stabbing of a promoter over unpaid money in October 2021.

Last week the singer, ahead of the release of his next album, apologized to fans for the “situation.”

“My message to my fans is I apologize for this situation I get myself caught up in,“ Jah Cure said.

“I would like to give this album to you as a special gift from me to you. Until we see each other soon, I will have some interesting songs to share with you.”

The new 11-track LP, titled Undeniable, will be released via VP Records on February 17.

Jah Cure is known for his hit songs Longing For (2005), Love Is (2005), and True Reflection (Prison Walls) (2007), which he recorded while serving eight years in prison in Jamaica for rape.

He’s also known for Never Find, the John Legend cover All Of Me, That Girl, Wake Up, and What Will It Take.

His 2015 album, The Cure, which included the songs That Girl, Rasta and Life We Live, earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Reggae Album that year.
