When dancehall artist Skystar’s house was destroyed by a Molotov cocktail in the middle of a bloody gang war when he was only nine years old, his world threatened to crumble in on itself.

“After my house burnt down, my whole world shattered, I lived on the street for  a bit but by the help of God, I was taken in by my father’s family in St. Ann. It was tough, it took years before I was able to reunite with my biological mother, and ever since we struggled, but the ghetto was good,” Skystar told DancehallMag.

Fast forward 20 years, and the young rhyme-spitter now lives in the province of Alberta, Canada where he has carved out a decent reputation for his lyrical stylings and grimy dancehall music.

He is pumped up about the response to his latest single, Control the Pressure, which was released on the Konsequence Muzik label two weeks ago.

“The response to ‘Control the Pressure’ has been great and it has been getting a lot of traction in Jamaica so far. This is my first collaboration with Snipawizdom, who brought the heat on this project. I got the rhythm from Konsequence Muzik and asked Snipa to do a verse and the rest was history,” Sky Star, whose real name is Ainsworth Rose, said.

Visuals for the single have racked up 9,000 plus views so far.

The Farrin Badness Boss described his music as ‘grimy dancehall with a touch of trap dancehall”.

“I’m all about fun and vibrance,” he said.

He was born and raised in Patrick Gardens, Kingston 20 and spent his formative years between there and a small depressed community in St. Andrew called ‘Mudtown’. His house was torched by gang members and so at only nine years old, he started going back and forth between family members.

He developed a love for music during his high school days at Pembroke Hall and then Oberlin High. He honed his skills in dancehall battles where his versatility, uniqueness and creativity made him hard to beat among his peers.

In 2005, he got his real taste of music when he was signed by Mark Francis (Gabash Ent),

He has carved out a decent reputation for his lyrical stylings in the province of Alberta, Canada where he now lives. He works closely with the label, Farrin Badness.

“My fanbase in Canada is growing more and more everyday and the audience always sings along when I’m performing. In Alberta, I am known as the number one upcoming underground dancehall artiste representing the label, FarrinBadness,” he said.

The label has signed four artists and has a core team of producers.

Skystar will be performing on a Big Linkz Promotions show alongside Shaniel Muir in Edmonton, Canada.
