Guyana’s Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, M.P. may have banned Skeng from performing in the country, but from the looks of a viral pre-Father’s Day video featuring some Guyana Fire Service (GFS) personnel, the Dancehall star is still running the block.

The members of GFS, which falls under Benn’s Ministry, were seen partying to the tune of Skeng and Tommy Lee Sparta’s Protocol in the Conference Room of the Guyana Fire Service on June 17.

In a statement, released on June 18, the GFS said an investigation has been launched into the matter.

The viral video shows a uniformed member skipping across the room while raving and reeling his fingers to Lee’s lyrics in the intro of the song as fellow staff members watched and cheered him on.

As the track played, “Dem nah run dem block, when we pull up dem haffi run lef dat...,” another excited officer got to his feet and mimicked holding a rifle to fire imaginary shots in the air.

In their statement, the fire service said “the program included the distribution of several gifts which were awarded to the father with the most children, the father with the youngest child and the youngest father.”

“Following the distribution of gifts, our fathers received well wishes from their colleagues and were treated to lunch. All of the activities planned and conducted were mainly to show appreciation for some of our hard working fathers who were on duty at the time.”

“It is saddening that a private moment at the conclusion of the event was recorded and released on social media which brought discredit to the GFS,” they added. “The Guyana Fire Service is not condoning the content and behavior displayed in the video and an investigation has since been launched into the matter.”

The private show of support for Skeng comes after Benn directed his Ministry and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to effectively ban the Gvnman Shift deejay and other artists like him, from performing publicly in Guyana.

The Minister’s order followed the events of Skeng’s performance at the ‘Baderation’ Dancehall concert at the National Park in Guyana on Friday, May 27, 2022. Skeng, who was performing Protocol during his set, was forced to quickly exit the stage when some patrons began recklessly firing actual gunshots in the air and throwing bottles.

Fans have weighed in on whether Minister Benn will ban the fire service men under his ministry the way he did Skeng.

“I want know if Benn will ban them too😂😂😂😂,” said one Guyanese person.

Others added, “Everybody a get fire in here watch 😂😂,” and “Looks like administrative leave for all present 😂😂😂.”

“Lol so they ban d yute n all police a act up off e man music lol … Dey nar run dem block”, said one person.

“So everybody a Guyana tun bad man now Cancels GT plane ticket 😩” joked another.

Last September, several officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) were penalized for lip-syncing to Skeng’s Gvnman Shift. The cops were seen on TikTok videos brandishing assault rifles and mouthing the song’s lyrics as part of a challenge.

Skeng and Tommy Lee Sparta’s infamous Protocol certainly has a sway on the masses; the 1STClassMusic-produced single was released last November and has since garnered over 29 million YouTube views.

Skeng’s August 2021 release, Gvnman Shift, which appeared on Chemist Records and Raheef Music Group’s 1Matik Riddim, has over over 25 million views on YouTube.
