Spice Honored By NYC Council Caucus

The Queen of Dancehall Spice continues to reign after being the first Jamaican to be honored by the New York City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and the Power and Music Committee on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Awarded ‘International Music Ambassador’ for her outstanding achievements in music, she was among notable honourees such as Al Sharpton, Legendary Singer Patti LaBelle, Hip Hop Pioneer Doug E Fresh, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, Roxanne Shante, Waah Dean, founder of  “Ruff Riders Entertainment,” world-renowned video directors Benny Boom, Ralph McDaniels, and former MCA Records executive, Don Pooh. 

Spice, whose given name is Grace Hamilton, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the accolade with her four million followers.

“Let it be known that today, June 15th, The New York City council’s Black Latino and Asian Caucus honored me with the International Music Ambassador Award for my outstanding achievements in Music. Thank you Power music Awards I’m humbled.  From homeless to Greatness.”

The So Mi Like It deejay subsequently shared group photos of herself, and fellow awardees. The obviously proud Jamaican entertainer tagged some of them to extend her gratitude for their support, and hail them for their incredible talent—even going as far as labeling Roxanne Shanté as the Queen of Rap.

Spice also had her support team with her to share in the award ceremony.

“I got the best right hand in the world @wondawoman0 I love you so much Bestie , look at us moving mountains . Big up my NYC glam team @glambypeachhie @empresslyglam  , love you both so much .”

Scores of fans and other members of the entertainment fraternity sent congratulatory messages. Among them were Dancehall deejay Demarco, Charly Black and Kemar Highcon.

Meanwhile, Charly Black added, “Congratulations as always sis 👏👏👏” to which Spice responded Thank you my bro . You’re always so happy for me  , I love you 🥰🥰🥰

At the last staging of the awards, Hip Hop Pioneer and Gospel Music Icons such as Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane and Hezekiah Walker were honored. 

This is Spice’s second honorary award for the year. She was honored by TV One’s Black Women in Media Awards in Las Vegas, just days before the 64th Annual Grammys. The BWIM committee honors women of color who have made exceptional contributions to communications, media, entertainment, literature, publishing, TV and film, technology and so much more.
