Declaring that he has to lead by example, as a Jamaican music producer who has been lamenting the dearth of Reggae tracks being produced on the island, NotNice has announced his upcoming Kyng Midas 1.5 Reggae EP.

The first single, a romantic ballad titled Distance, by Richie Spice was officially released on April 1, and is a song in which the producer is well-pleased.

The EP, which is a compilation of reggae singles, is an indication that he has been working up a storm in his studios, and is set for release this summer.  It is a follow-up to his Billboard-charting Kyng Midas compilation album which featured tracks by Bounty Killer, Sean Paul, Popcaan, Agent Sasco, Teejay, Dexta Daps, Rygin King and Jah Vinci, Ghananian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

According to NotNice, whose given name is Ainsley Morris, his follow-up EP will be strictly Reggae, unlike its predecessor, which was a blend of Dancehall and Reggae.  “It is a Reggae project, so the first was more or less a mixture, so now the 1.5 is Reggae. Suh each time wi guh .5 oonu a guh get a Reggae,” the St. Mary native said.

“Wi work wid Richie Spice before.  Now this a di first video.  Wi did haffi give him di first track pon this issue.  It’s a very lovely song,” he added in a video he shared on his Instagram page.

NotNice has also dropped the second track So High, featuring Jah Vinci, Nordia Mothersille and JaFrass.  The accompanying music video for the track, which is sponsored by rolling paper company Lion Pride, was released on April 20, the date recognised by ganja smokers as a holiday for cannabis culture.

NotNice released his Kyng Midas debut album in August 2019 after what he described at the time as eight months of hard work, sacrifice, and sleepless nights. That album featured 18 tracks, on 18 exclusive riddims.

Bounty Killer starred on the album with One General, an interpolation of General Echo’s Arleen, while Popcaan covered Garnet Silk’s hit song, New Found Love.

Sean Paul represented with That’s Mine, while Dexta Daps had two tracks on the album – Wicked Gyal and Stranger.  Other artistes who featured on that project were Jah Frass with Crime Lord, and Teejay with Alright, while Jah Vinci had the lead track titled, Winning, and featured on Empire Medley with former Portmore Empire associates Blak Ryno, Gaza Kim and Lisa Hyper, Sheba and Dosa Mere.

Back then Notnice had told The Star tabloid that while he had worked on singles and juggling riddims prior, he had never put out an album before.

NotNice got his musical break as a producer in 2007 in Vybz Kartel’s Gaza camp producing tracks such as Vybz Kartel’s Last Man Standing, Cake Soap, and Mama.  He is also the producer of Spice’s So Mi Like It, Jah Vinci’s Watch Yuh Friends, Popcaan’s Gangster City and Dream, Shawn Storm’s My Life, and Quada’s Celebration.

In March Notnice was spotted in studio with Romantic Call singer Patra, who said she had teamed up with him to record tracks, ahead of her official return to music, after a years-long hiatus.

Just over a week after the gold-selling artiste announced that she was inspired and was back in musical mode, she posted two video clips of herself in the studio with the producer, who was busy at work.

The new Kyng Midas 1.5 EP is among a plethora of musical productions Notnice has been undertaking over the last several months.

A few weeks ago, after lamenting bitterly in 2021 that Dancehall music has become too singles-driven, and calling for more juggling riddims for 2022, he had announced a new juggling riddim, aimed at harkening back his musical compatriots to the times when the genre had solid international appeal, due to the juggling style of production.
