American rapper Boosie Badazz recently spent some downtime in Jamaica with his family soaking up some sun, sea, and sand, and immersing himself in the culture.

Photos of him wearing faux locs and Rastafarian-colored clothing made rounds on social media, but one of the most interesting clips was of him telling an unidentified Jamaican man that he was a “Don Dadda” in the United States.

The clip was posted to DJ Akademiks’ Instagram page and viewers heard the Like a Man rapper speaking on his wealth back in his home country, which, according to him, makes him worthy of such a title.

“I’m a big player! I’m a big Don Dada in the States, bro,” he says while looking intently at the man he was speaking to.  “I live on 80 acres, 80 acres!” to which the male in the background responds, “that sounds nice”

“Do what you want,” the rapper added. “Football field, zip line…you know like y’all got the zip lines? I got them in my back yard. Seriously, mon!”

In Jamaica, ‘Don Dadda’ refers to a kingpin in Kingston’s inner-city communities or the don of all dons, who wields so much power, that he’s both respected and feared by everyone including lesser dons and politicians.  The phrase was espoused by the late Reggae legend Bunny Wailer in his 1991 song Don Dadda and later popularized by veteran deejay Super Cat, who released a 1992 album of the same name.

The term is not new to Boosie—he too has a song called Don Dada with B Will and Lee Banks, which appeared on his 2017 album BooPac.

Amidst all the fun Boosie seemed to be having, including rafting on the Rio Grande in Portland, he was also taken aback by the male attention his mother, Connie Hatch, was getting after tossing on a monokini at one of the popular north coast beaches.

“My momma got on one piece special bathing suit ?? These Jamaican men all on my momma…wtf this feels weird lmao,” he tweeted.

Fans seemed to be invested in the satire from the rapper while he was visiting.

“He’s a Jamaican citizen Kingston stamped it 😂” one commented on Instagram.

“Jamaica perfect for Boosie 🤣,” another seemingly entertained fan added.

“You know u somebody if u call yoself a big don dada,” another said.
