Safai Kelly—the daughter of Dancehall producer Dave Kelly—and her athlete boyfriend Krystian Negron are engaged, the couple revealed on Instagram on Wednesday.

The waterfront engagement in Venice, Italy saw Negron, a baseball player, going down on his knees to surprise Kelly and pop the question.

“I got question for you, we’ve been talking about, I don’t know if we gonna find a day that we ready but will you marry me?” he said.  Negron added on Instagram, “I may never find the right words to describe the amount of love I have for you, but luckily I will have the rest of my life to try ❤️✨💍”

“Thank you @sharicakes @heeeymaaan for helping making this possible and everyone that has given us their prayers along the way,” he continued.

In her own post about the engagement, the Jamaican-born beauty influencer and content creator wrote, “I would say yes every single time!  You are the definition of a bestfriend and I can’t wait to build a life with you @therealkrysnegron 😘.”

Dancehall hitmaker Cham reacted to the news, writing “Congratulations Safai 🥂🍾❤️🙏🏾”, in a comment.

Singer Aisha Davis also chimed in with, “Awww congratulations sweetie ✨💍❤️”

The makeup influencer told World Music Views in an interview that her Jamaican heritage benefits her both in her professional and private life.

“I find my life is more enriched, culture is a hell of a thing and it sets me apart from other people in my career”.

Although her father is one of the most influential producers in dancehall and reggae culture and her maternal grandfather is singer Barry Biggs, the young Kelly says, “I will always love music, music is in my blood but I can’t dream of beats like my dad, my dad will wake up out of his sleep with a beat. or he just imagines the beats, that is not where my mind is creatively. I visualize looks on the canvas, on the face, that’s where my creativity falls.”

“I definitely get my creativity from my dad,” she continued.

Dave Kelly has released some of the most popular and influential dancehall riddims such as Joyride, Showtime, Fiesta, and 85.

He produced Beenie Man’s international hit Dude featuring Ms. Thing which peaked at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The 2003 Fiesta riddim was featured on Beenie Man’s album Back to Basics and Baby Cham’s major hit Ghetto Story.

Kelly also produced Buju Banton’s Blessed, which was the lead single on his Grammy-nominated Upside Down 2020 album.
