It is not easy being a second-generation star. Just ask 21-year-old N’Hance, who is the son of former Portmore Empire standout Gaza Sheba. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t go around advertising that his mom is a star.

“A lot of people didn’t know that Gaza Sheba is my mom and a lot still don’t know and also it’s not information that I just give out everywhere I go. I try to keep it unsaid as possible,” the artist whose real name is Kenneil Lawrence, said.

N’Hance’S NEW single, ‘No Love’ has generated over 350,000 views since its release one month ago. The song, written from the artist’s personal heartbreaks and bitter betrayals, has resonated well with a teenage audience.

“The response that I have been getting from the song, No Love, has been great. I was surprised at first but I think a lot of people can relate, that’s why it is so powerful, there is no love out there. The song has made many persons now acknowledge me as an artiste, and given me many more opportunities,” he said.

The song has been added to rotation on ZIP, IRIE, Suncity Radio.

“In the streets, a lot of selectors including DJ Banka, Shaney Badz, Badda Bling, DJ 45, Lava sound in London,” he said.

Born in the St.Thomas Prince Margaret Hospital, in Morant Bay. He moved to live in Spanish Town where he was raised in the March Pen community, and attended Greater Portmore High School in Portmore. He was exposed to a wide variety of music from a tender age by mother dancehall Artist Gaza Sheba, now known as Sheba.

The former Vybz Kartel protégé is best known for her collaborations with the Worl’ Boss including You and Him Deh, Like Christmas, Gal a Weh Me Do You, and Gaza Man Mi Name. She is also known for her other songs Think Mi Nuh Kno and Money and Faithful.

N’Hance idolized artists such as Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man, Bob Marley and Chris Brown.  He decided he wanted to be a deejay and began writing his own lyrics when he was 16, adopting the name, N’Hance.

“I started thinking what word best describes me and that’s when it hit : N’hance because I’m always making things better and more advanced, so ‘enhance’ would be me then I just gave it my own spelling,” he explained.

Eager to master his skills, Nhance and his friends frequented local studios. The first song he ever recorded was ‘Scamma She Love’ which was produced by Touch a Goal Records. He has also worked extensively with Fire Royal Records.

He has performed at a couple of events all over the island but his first major performance came in Westmoreland where he wowed the audience.

“Honestly, I just have a love fi music in all situations. Music helps me, and music itself inspires me, my mom inspires me to do music also, so this is my path, I am all in,” he said.
