Dancehall artist Popcaan has bewailed the continued lockdown of Jamaica’s entertainment industry, while many other nations have returned to normalcy.

The Firm and Strong deejay took to Twitter to paint a paradoxical picture of the stringent measures still in effect in Jamaica, compared to African countries he recently visited.

“Jamaica a the only place ina this world me see police a lock off party certain way, Ghana me go club hopping until 8am! Gambia we say beh suba!!! We are the music capital my people don’t ever forget that, don’t fight our own culture,” he tweeted on Saturday afternoon.

Since March 2020, Jamaica’s entertainment industry has remained dormant in the government’s effort to curtail the number of coronavirus cases. However, according to the Jamaica Gleaner, Minister of Health Dr. Christopher Tufton recently announced that an approved list of events will be issued, in short order.

Just last month, the Dun Rich artist outdid himself by drawing thousands of fans to Bakau Independence Stadium in Banjul, Gambia for his first-ever performance in the country.  As he vowed the crowd, Poppy performed with his full band, for more than an hour, at the event which was held under the auspices of Absolute Entertainment.  The Bakau Stadium reportedly has a 40,000 capacity.

Hours following the event the Numbers Don’t Lie artist thanked his Gambian fans for what he described as a historic feat.  “Thank you again to the smiling coast of Africa and @AbsoluiteEGm! We made history in the Gambia last night!” he tweeted after the show in January.

He also shared a drone shot of the jampacked stadium grounds on Instagram and praised his Gambian fans for their turnout.  “Lead by example, Gambia unruly roll out super heavy 👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 thank you!!!  #UNRULY,” he noted.

The Unruly Boss is also slated for a slew of shows in Kenya, over the Easter holidays.

In January, he announced a third date change to his Vibes Kenya-promoted Unruly Rave stage show, which was originally set for January 8 and later shifted to February 26, but has once again been changed, this time to Easter.

Last year, Popcaan also announced that he would be launching his upcoming album, Great Is He, Great Is Me, in Ghana.
