Dancehall artist Versi, formerly known as Versatile – a former Unruly Camp member, set off a firestorm yesterday after declaring that he was partly responsible for establishing Popcaan’s ‘Unruly’ brand.  However, Popcaan issued a heated clap back to shut down the singer’s claim.

Versi also claimed, among other things, that he has written music for Dancehall veterans Bounty Killer and Beenie Man and even introduced popular music manager Romeich Major to the entertainment business.

Versi, aka Versi Pon Di Endz took to social media yesterday morning (January 4) to tease his new single Naw Steam. He promised fans “100 comments an mi drop this now #nawsteam🔥🔥🔥” and quoted a pretty controversial line in the song with a snippet of the music video tuning said verse.

“Me a the man wey introduce @romeichentertainment ina music, write fi @kingbeenieman, write fi @grunggaadzilla, mi help build #unruly! Yea! Becau mi been #unruly! From mi name shotta me ina music and dem could’nt rule mi,” he wrote.

Versi went on to name drop a few more industry heads, “@realioctane Get some a mi style dem and him still a use e! Man a star, yu nuh see it dawg; mi fi ina movie🎥”

“Big up @thecham wey discover mi roun a porty! Now mi married to the music and mi won’t divorce e,” he added.

For many IG followers that were tuned in to Versi’s Instagram share, it was quite the surprise when several of those celebrities responded to his post. Beenie Man, Cham, I-Octane and Romeich all showed their endorsements in the comments by throwing up fire emojis.

In another post, I-Octane even went as far as to share how Versi influenced his Dancehall career.

He wrote, “🔥🔥🔥🔥 go fi dem mi bredda 2022 ✈✈ a nuff things mi learn from you bredda [ a you tell me say octane yuh afi start use di word gyal inna mi songs and mi a say at di time no versi 👉 gyal dah word deh nuh fit me 🤣 👉 and yuh say f#ck dat just do it and me do it fi real and it work] big up yuh self @versicawva 2022 road ✈”

Versi responded, “@realioctane RESPECT BREDDA✊🏾” and again on his IG Stories wrote, “See a man yah wey willing fi admit the truth! @realioctane Big up fam.”

The Unruly Boss, Popcaan on the other hand wasn’t as welcoming to Versi’s statements, instead, he fired back and said, “Bwoy guh suck out yuh muma!!!”

Versi, who evidently became infuriated about the matter, responded, “Sh!t mouth bwoy guh suck yu faada!!!” presumably aimed at Popcaan.

Further adding that he even co-wrote a single for Popcaan that he referenced as “Unruly Anthem” and tagged music producer Markus Myrie and deejay’s Quada and JaFrass. (The three appear in the 2017 single Unruly Camp.)

“And pu$$y memba half a Unruly Anthem lyrics a mine enuh #1realmarkus @quadawellbad @jafrassmusic can talk the truth if dem honest!!!” Versi wrote.

Popcaan however, refused to let it end there. He reposted Versi’s claim about ‘building Unruly’ on his Instagram Stories to not only address the allegation but ask him how could he have helped to build an established brand such as ‘Unruly’ when he can’t even build his own music career.

“Pu$$y all me a avoid unu, these mangoose still a try follow me up!! Bombohole how you fi build unruly if you cant build yuh own Bomboclaat self,” he began.  “Pu$$y unu stop envy man a guh buss yuh brain and make good music.”

“Bombohole you have big platform long [before] me, never share yours wid me, me fwd after you and share mine wid you and you still hate me, guh suck unu mada me tired a unu pu$$$y!! Happy new year badmind bombohole!!!”

The saga continued when Versi responded to say Popcaan was bitter and needed to control his ego. Adding that he put his own career on the line to make Poppy’s ‘Unruly’ brand grow and gain street cred. He also reminded the Firm And Strong deejay that there were a lot more details that he could spill to the public but will leave things where they are.

In the visuals for Versi’s new single Naw Steam, the deejay ends the video with a brief interview clip of Romeich Major acknowledging that he used to manage “Versatile’s” career when he was starting out in the business while doing his ‘Romeich Wear’ clothing line. There is also another clip of Cham confirming that he did infact watch Versi evolve from a young talent to the artist he is today and referred to Versi as “My student”.

Versi also has collaborations with Bounty Killer on the track, The Voice in 2018 and Beenie Man on a singles, Wine Yuh Body featuring Laden and I Love The Girls on the Summer Fling Riddim that dropped in 2011.
