Dancehall star Govana is used to breaking the internet with his dynamic lyrics, however, this time around, it was his National Water Commission (NWC) bill for a whopping $540,078.61 (approximately US$3,473) which sent tongues wagging.

According to the deejay’s representatives, the November 26 water bill, for his upper St. Andrew home, had doubled from $250,000 over the course of one month.  It’s due on December 17.

Seemingly unamused, the Chap Chop deejay took to Instagram today and tagged the NWC and the anti-corruption law enforcement government organization, MOCA Jamaica to have the matter investigated.

Over the last few months, Govana has been overseas and recently concluded a pair of performances in Boston, Massachusetts, and BRT Weekend, Florida.

The shock echoed throughout comments on the post, including the deejay’s JOP crewmate, Aidonia, who wrote, “A wah gwannnn ? 😂😂😂😂😂 u get chop mi fren”.

Govana replied, “@aidonia4thgenna Jahjah Rasta … dem betta chop d water supply enuh dawg.. nuh know a who n dem hombre.”

In his Instagram story, the artist also posted the bill, this time strongly rebuking the utility company, stating “ @nwcjamaica the blood of Jesus is against unu.”

Meanwhile, Zip FM mainstay and music producer, ZJ Sparks also expressed shock at the sizable bill. She referenced Govana’s stand-out hit Likkle Bit A Money, in her caption: “Wait deh, ah di whola Spain NWC charge Govi fah? A di Likkle Bit Ah Money song dweet enuh 🤦🏽‍♀️.”

Govana is just the latest Jamaican public figure to lash out at one of the island’s utility companies.

In June of last year, track athlete Asafa Powell aired his frustrations with light and power company, Jamaica Public Service (JPS) on Twitter. The sub – ten runner posted, “@myJPSonline wah really ah gwane? My bill jumped over 20k+ each month. I’ve a solar panel system set up…when we saw the 1st increase, we decided to purposely cut back on washing etc. 2c if the bill would go down it went up more. This is deliberate by you guys plain and simple.”

Over ten years ago, Vybz Kartel also famously shared his opinion of the JPS, in an episode of a series called Vybz Kartel Speaks His Mind.
