Popcaan Drops First Song From New Album, Plus Three Collabs With Meek Mill, Chris Brown, Capella Grey And Skip Marley

Dancehall’s ‘Unruly Boss’ Popcaan brought the heat today (October 1) after appearing on four new tracks.

In addition to dropping the first single from his upcoming album, the St. Thomas native, 33, was featured on a collaboration with rapper Capella Grey alongside R&B star Chris Brown, and then another with fellow Jamaican Skip Marley. The deejay also appeared on the intro track of rapper Meek Mill’s new album, which was released today.

Popcaan – Superior

Produced by Anjublaxx of BlackState Music and Popcaan’s own record label, Superior arrived with visuals directed by Jeezy, offering an up-close-and-person biopic of the Dancehall deejay.

In the video, scenes of his life in his hometown of Jamaica flicker across the screen, and so do news clippings of Popcaan making the headlines for some not-so-proud moments. “God send me an angel,” he sings. But as he’s said time and time again, nothing gets in the way of his connection with God. In more uplifting notes like, “Definition of a conqueror that’s what I am,” the news clippings switch gear to highlight the positives and highs of his career, because after all, he is Superior.

The upcoming album, which is still untitled, will be Popcaan’s fifth studio project, following 2020’s FIXTAPE , and is expected to be released later this year.

Capella Grey – Gyalis (Remix) featuring Chris Brown, Popcaan

In the revamp of his summer anthem, Bronx-native, Capella Grey, 26, has dropped the official Gyalis remix featuring Popcaan and Chris Brown. The infectious track, which was originally released independently in March of 2021, is a reflection of Grey’s Jamaican heritage, and what better way to authenticate that even further than to include Dancehall bars from one of the most popular talents in the genre, Popcaan.

Grey’s Gyalis quickly spiraled into one of the hottest tracks this summer and attracted a number of unofficial remixes from Jamaican stars Kranium, and Jada Kingdom as well as rappers French Montana, Tory Lanez and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. Before his official feature on the song, Chris Brown was quoted as saying that it was, “the hardest sh-t out right now.”

On the track’s borrowed beat of Juvenile’s 1998 hit, Back That Azz Up, the Unruly Boss takes the ‘Gyalis’ narrative to true Dancehall territory tossing euphemisms aside to dish his hardcore “badman” rhymes. Chris Brown effortlessly jumps on the beat to make it his own crooning his usually sexy sonic flows.

Skip Marley –Vibe featuring Popcaan

In another drafting, Popcaan teams up with chart-topping, two-time Grammy-nominated Skip Marley on the single Vibe. Riding on the waves of a peppy, Afrobeat sounding riddim, Skip and Poppy inspire a fun, feel-good, dance vibe on this one for their listeners.

‘‘Vibe’ is a feeling, a whole spirit and energy. A movement that brings light and life. It’s about being alive!’ says the 25-year-old Marley heir about the new record.

Vibe was produced by Rykeyz, who also produced Skip’s Billboard-topping, RIAA-certified gold single Slow Down with American singer H.E.R.

Meek Mill – Intro (Hate On Me)

Last month, Meek Mill said he was in need of a Reggae song he can rap on.  It appears that wish didn’t come through, so he settled for Popcaan’s delivery of some signature toasts on Intro (Hate On Me), which appears on his new 18-track album Expensive Pain.

In his first of two brief odes on the song, the Firm and Strong deejay confidently reps Mill’s label, Dream Chasers. “Yeh, you done know ah di Unruly Boss, represent fi bombocl@@t Dream Chasers you hear. Real El Chappo Meek Milli, a.ka. Meek Killy.”

Then towards the end of the track, Popcaan sounds off: “You know how the f##king ting go man, oh yoo, outside.”

Along with toasts from the Dancehall star, Meek’s Expensive Pain includes features from rappers Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Durk and Lil Baby, Kehlani, A$AP Ferg, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, and more. Expensive Pain is the rapper’s eighth full-length album, a follow-up to his 2018 compilation, Championships.
