In another dynamic duet, Reggae/Dancehall acts Beres Hammond and Popcaan have come together yet again to release a touching tribute dedicated to their mothers in the single, A Mother’s Love that premiered yesterday.

The entertainers surprised music lovers earlier this year when they teamed on the single God Is Love. The unlikely pairing saw artists of two generations, almost three decades apart, and from different subgenres coming together for the first time. The move prompted fans to push for a subsequent music video and Popcaan’s mother, Miss Rhona to enlist the track among the ‘three songs fit for her ears’ that were recorded by her son.

Now Popcaan has undeniably complemented Miss Rhona’s playlist once again with a fourth song in his latest collaboration with Hammond on, A Mother’s Love.

Produced by Shane Brown Music in association with Harmony House and Unruly Entertainment, the song is a trip down memory lane where the two men reminisce about their lives growing up as kids. Blessed with strong independent mothers, Popcaan and Beres were raised to be resilient and were never ‘left by the way side’, though times were hard.

“This beautiful little lady creating miracles out of nothing, relentless, that she is. The real beauty about her is, she does it with a smile. Turns trash into treasure, sorrow into pleasure,” Beres croons in the verses.

The Prof and Kryss Ras-directed music video displayed vivid imageries of such to bring the narrative of the song alive. Side by side, their journeys begin the same – one going all the back to 1970 when Beres was a youth of about 10 years old, and the other ahead in 1998 to see Popcaan at the same age.

Mama makes them breakfast with a hot cup of tea on a wood fire outside, and covers them in prayer before sending them off to school. Life would then take on different paths but their upbringing for the most part was the same. They share some resonating lessons from their matriarchs, for Popcaan, “I remember when I was younger and miss Rhona was overseas and grandma told me how great I’m gonna be.”

Beres picks up, “I can remember myself as a young man growing up. If I fell she said get up! Get up, boy! ‘There’s nothing down there but dirt, so get my boy and show your worth’.”

In another new release yesterday, Popcaan and Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda teamed up on a sorrowful yet rhythmic Afrobeat-infused single called So Cold.

The TJ Records and Dangbana Republik-produced single sounds off about this oh ‘so cold’ world that we all live in. With thoughtless government bodies running ship, the injustice many face is simply intolerable and they’re ‘not giving up the fight until it’s over.’
