After celebrating her “best birthday so far” on August 6, Queen of Dancehall Spice reached another major milestone this month. The deejay’s birthday festivities coincided with the release of her debut album 10, and now just weeks later, her hit song So Mi Like It has surpassed 100 million YouTube views.

Spice is now among the few female dancehall acts to achieve the incredible feat.  Stefflon Don has multiple videos over 100 million views, while Kranium’s Nobody Has To Know reached the 100M mark just last week.

Speaking previously on the inclusion of the 2014 track on her debut LP, Spice told DancehallMag “I was asked to pick one song from the past 10 years to go on the album. It was a hard decision, but So Mi Like It just hit different.”

“I think by the time ‘10’ drops, the video will reach over 100 million YouTube views. You have to wine when you hear it. You have to just enjoy yourself. It gives you that burst of energy,” she added.

Produced by NotNice, Spice’s raunchy breakthrough was the lead single off her similarly titled debut and the visuals were uploaded in January of the same year. In the three-minute clip which she also directed, Spice and her dancers perform some of their most acrobatic stunts over the booming riddim which still gets fans hyped up from the record-scratch intro. Since then, Spice has truly become the successful siren she plays in the video, with an ongoing reality-TV stint, hair, make-up and clothing lines, and an unbroken string of hit singles to this day.

Ironically, however, Spice’s breakthrough hit came at a breaking point in her life and she shared the story on Instagram last year when the banger reached “92 Million real views.”

“When I wrote this song 6 years ago I was broke AF”, the No Worries singer began. Home with my kids and told myself if this song don’t buss big I’m done with music. I drove to every party to get this track played myself,” Spice revealed in a since-deleted Instagram post.

“I burned CDs with the little money I got and drove around to give them out,” she added. I promoted this with all I got. Big up EVERY SELECTOR. Too much to tag. I took to the streets and never looked back. God is always right on time.”

With that much faith in God and her talents, her fortune increased tenfold; the tireless promotion led to countless hits, opportunities and awards including her Reggae Sumfest bestowed title, Queen of Dancehall.

“Moral of the story is sometimes you will definitely feel like giving up but DON’T, Spice continued. “#somilikeit ( I wanted to take out “Skin out mi p— p—line so bad”) I was shamed and embarrassed when I said it at first 😂😂😂 But that f%*king line made me rich so I will be skinning out my  p— p— right through bye,” Spice said on Instagram.
