‘Certified Quality!’ Sean Paul’s ‘Dutty Rock’ Cops Triple Platinum In The UK

Dancehall superstar Sean Paul continues to have a phenomenal year. His 2002 Grammy Award-winning album, Dutty Rock, is now officially BRIT Certified triple platinum in the United Kingdom.

On Friday (July 30), the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) revealed that Dutty Rock has reached sales of over 900,000 units, as measured by the Official Charts Company in the UK.

Released in November 2002, the 20 track album was Paul’s second studio project.  It landed five top 15 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart — namely, Get Busy and Baby Boy with Beyonce which both peaked at No. 1, Gimme the Light which peaked at No. 7, Like Glue which peaked No. 13, and I’m Still In Love With You with Sasha which peaked at No. 14.

All five singles also charted Top 6 on the UK Singles Chart.  

The VP Records/Atlantic Records suite peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and at No. 9 on the US Billboard 200 albums chart before it earned Sean Paul his first and only Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004.  He was also nominated that year for Best New Artist and Best Male Rap Solo Performance (Get Busy).

Just last week, Sean Paul was awarded a Pandora Billlionaires’ Club plaque after he surpassed a billion spins on the streaming platform.  Dutty Rock is ranked as Paul’s top album on Pandora, while I’m Still In Love With You with Sasha is ranked as his top song.

This is not the first multi-platinum album certification for Sean PaulDutty Rock is also certified 2X Platinum in the United States by the RIAA after it reached sales of over 2,000,000 units on September 8, 2003.   The deejay’s Dutty Classics Collection and The Trinity albums are also both BRIT Certified Gold in the UK for sales of over 100,000 copies by BPI, while The Trinity is certified platinum in the US for sales of over 1,000,000 copies by the RIAA. 

Paul’s most recent album, Live N Livin, was his first full-length project to be released on his own label, Dutty Rock Productions.

His next album, Scorcher, is now expected to be released under Island Records around mid-August 2021. It is set to feature Ty Dollar $ign, Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo, American singer Gwen Stefani, Australian pop star Sia, American rapper Nicky Jam and Jamaican hitmakers Shenseea, Jada Kingdom, Stylo G, and Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley.
