DANE SORTIE

Dane Sortie, one-half of the production duo that headed the Westmoreland-based production outfit, SartOut Records, is dead. Dane played the guitar and with his beat-making twin brother, Darren, constructed the thumping, melodic beats that have helped to colour the music of chart-topping Dancehall star Alkaline.

The late Dane Sortie, alongside his brother, came to public attention when they nabbed several production credits on Alkaline’s new album, Top Prize, specifically on songs Nuh Trust Mankind, Magic, and Payroll.

Alkaline’s sophomore album Top Prize grabbed the number one spot on a number of major streaming platforms, hitting No. 1 on Amazon Music’s best-selling album chart while trending everywhere from Twitter to Deezer, with all 14 tracks occupying the Top 100 playlist in Jamaica.

The album eventually had a No. 2 debut on Billboard’s coveted Reggae Albums chart.

The Manning High alums had first heard Alkaline’s music on Facebook back in 2011, and after reaching out to the Yung Lawd, recorded on the twins’ first official project, Breakaway Riddim. The twins also had two tracks, Nuttin But Badmind and Ugly Truth on Alkaline’s first official EP Youngest and the Baddest.

The duo also featured on Deeclef’s EP Agape with a track titled Represent from the duo’s Control Riddim compilation. The album debuted at No. 1 on the US Reggae iTunes chart.
