Shenseea Teases New Song ‘Run Run’ From Her Debut Album

Dancehall star Shenseea is giving fans the first taste from her upcoming debut album, with a new single Run Run out this Friday (July 16), she announced on Wednesday.

“FRIDAY 16, 2021!!!! I haven’t released music for 7 months!” she captioned an Instagram video clip from what appears to be Run Run’s music video. The short teaser clip shows a scene that is reminiscent of the Mad Max movie franchise with Shenseea swinging her ponytail like a whip or lasso, as she and her crew “run down”  their victim who’s holding his heart in his hands.

Run Run is produced by the Grammy Award-winning Di Genius, whose real name is Stephen McGreggor, son of Reggae veteran Freddie McGregor.  In 2020, Di Genius contributed to John Legend’s Bigger Love album, which copped the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. He produced the album’s 12th track Don’t Walk Away featuring Koffee, and also the title track Bigger Love. 

In 2017,  the Jamaican producer contributed to two Grammy-winning albums: Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley’s Stony Hill which won Best Reggae Album, and Shakira’s El Dorado which won Best Latin Pop Album.  Di Genius has also contributed to Burna Boy’s African Giant (2019), Chronixx’s Chronology (2017), Drake’s Views with Controlla (2016), Lianne La Havas’s Blood (2015) and Mali Music’s Mali Is… (2014), which were all nominated for a Grammy Award.

“Run run run, run run run, yo better run run run,” Shenseea sings in the clip that has already picked up over 300,000 views in one hour.

Meanwhile, Shenseea praised her fans for their patience.  Her last solo single was Upset, on the Style A Style Riddim by Chimney Records in December 2020.  “You guys have exceeded my expectations and proven true loyalty. The love is real shenyengz 🔥🐉 Ready?” she continued in the post.

Several Shenyengz reacted that the teaser made them think of Bajan popstar Rihanna. “This giving me a Rihanna vybz,” queen_bee_bri wrote. 

“Have a 90s dancehall vibes to it,” another commented.

“It’s the ponytail swing for me 🙌🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” said another.

Run Run, which is available for pre-save on Spotify and Apple Music, appears to be the first single to be released ahead of her highly anticipated debut album, which still does not have a name or release date.  

However, last week she announced that the project was done.  Earlier this week, she announced that her new manager was Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby.
